Do I send him to school? Covid-19

I’m not sure if it’s in the correct category.

I’m really concerned regarding the Covid-19. We live in Islington, no cases as yet but I just feel with the number raising so fast of people testing positive i should send my child to school. He’s currently in reception.

Anyone else??

Keep going to school. Why wouldn’t you at the moment?

LittleBearPad · 08/03/2020 23:57

I’d send him to school. There’s no need to interrupt his education. My two will go tomorrow

if you have the capacity to home educate for the next 18 months minimum, then deregister him from school and crack on. if you couldn't home educate over that timescale then there is no point whatsoever keeping him off for any shorter period except if a centrally organised school shutdown is put in fit all children, which could theoretically have a general beneficial effect on slowing down the general spread.

I live in London( East London) and my daughter is 10 and still attending school .
My mother is 83 and lives with us and she is completely fine.

Fantasiaa · 09/03/2020 01:19

You have no reason not to

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/03/2020 01:33

Unless the school says other wise, send him.

avamiah · 09/03/2020 01:34

Yes agree .

Onesailwait · 09/03/2020 01:40

Unless he is sick I cant see any reason to keep him home at this point

Mumofoneandanotherontheway · 09/03/2020 07:26

Thank you for all your replies. I think your all right I’ll send him until/if they close temporarily x

you could ask the school to detail what additional measures they are taking to protect the wellbeing of children in the light of the C19 situation. they could for example be having whole-class handwashing interludes 4 times a day, additional lessons on hygiene, and trying to address crowdedness in classrooms where possible (a school could instantly reduce possible spread among children by dividing what would normally be 2 classes of 30 into 3 classes of 20, if they have the staff and space which obviously most won't). they may not be doing any of these things yet but your enquiry might make then start thinking about what they could do.

Hi OP, we've moved this over to our Coronavirus topic!

SirVixofVixHall · 09/03/2020 10:08

My dc are in school today, but I am dithering about when to remove them. If they were in Primary I would definitely have kept them at home. Especially reception ! My eldest is doing GCSEs and has missed a lot of classes recently anyway as she wasn’t well, so it is very tricky. I hope they close schools and set them work to do at home.

LoveWine123 · 09/03/2020 10:15

For how long would you keep him home if you don't send him to school?

Reginabambina · 09/03/2020 10:20

Do you have any reason not to?

Frazzled2207 · 09/03/2020 10:56

unless you want to home educate indefinitely (a week or two really isn't going to make any difference) then send to school. Mine will be going until it closes if it does. However I do think it's worth speaking to head/teachers to check they are being sensible with ensuring children washing hands etc because not convinced all schools are taking it seriously

Mumofoneandanotherontheway · 10/03/2020 08:45

So after my last message yesterday he was meant to be going to school until he woke up with a high temperature & vomited once. He was fine after I gave him nurofen, but by the evening he was feeling unwell again. He’s woken up today looking abit better but I’ve decided to keep him home for today & hopefully send him back tomorrow.

Oh dear hope he feels better soon. I'd personally keep him off until fully recovered just in case.

Mumofoneandanotherontheway · 17/03/2020 18:22

Update: he went back to school after I spoke to the school regarding his symtoms... however Friday he was off sick again due to constant yellow stools and feeling sick... better over the weekend and went back to school yesterday. Although after yesterday’s government announcement I’ve decided to keep him home as I’m an asthmatic and only just over come a chest infection so don’t want to take any risks... also have a 1yr old...
I’ve still got a on going cough from my chest infection not sure if we need to self isolate as a family as hubby is still going to work... any one else?
Such a sad time right now
