You need to post this in the right place and not put links without some context.

Not clicking on some random link

PawPawNoodle · 08/03/2020 20:25

Nope

MrsPerfect12 · 08/03/2020 20:26

Nope totally ridiculous! No need at all.

Hingeandbracket · 08/03/2020 20:26

Post it in the panic area.

You seem to have invented a new word.

QuestionableMouse · 08/03/2020 20:26

Oh good lord. Enough with this.

Closing schools would cripple the economy. It isn't going to happen, short of an extreme outbreak and we're not there yet.

ragged · 08/03/2020 20:27

That article was written by a guy famous for his comic books.
Just saying.

TheFairyCaravan · 08/03/2020 20:28

Get a grip

Mayhapitis · 08/03/2020 20:30

Ugh.

Notonmyshift · 08/03/2020 20:30

273 people have it out of millions.
Get A GRIP

pollyhampton · 08/03/2020 20:31

What does quantise mean in this context? And you are being ridiculous, this has been blown out of all proportions and people like you are to blame for trying to cause widespread panic. I am so sick of it all.

UnderReview · 08/03/2020 20:32

*quarantine

Can someone fix it for me?? Mumsnet hq?

I'm also worried, but the person you linked to is just a politician (which slightly extreme views). He's not a doctor or an epidemiologist - why would what he thinks carry any weight with anyone?

TwoZeroTwoZero · 08/03/2020 20:38

Yes, let's close schools, colleges and childcare settings and then all of the parents who either work in those places or who rely on them so they can go to work themselves can't work, lose income and end up unable to support themselves. All the industries that employ those parents can just lose half or more of their workforce and those left behind, if they're not ill themselves, can just cope with the extra workload. Sounds like a great idea to me...

tinytemper66 · 08/03/2020 20:39

I am a teacher and whilst I would love time off, under these circumstances no! I have exam classes to teach plus we have some vulnerable children who rely on us for routine, stability and a hot meal.
So I hope schools are not closed down. Perhaps if parents so wish to keep their children off, attendance rules could be relaxed so no one is penalised.

Nat6999 · 08/03/2020 20:41

Ok if a city has confirmed cases, but what about areas with no confirmed cases? Sheffield up to now hasn't had any cases confirmed in the general public even though there are cases in isolation stone of our hospitals.

BeNiceToYourSister · 08/03/2020 20:44

I agree with this ^ But also agree that blanket closure of all schools at this stage would be batshit (as is that website, by the look of it!)

JulietTango · 08/03/2020 20:46

4 people per million in this country have (had) this virus. It's the lowest as far as I know in Western Europe. Personally I think we'll benefit from being an island with it being more difficult to visit than say France if you live in Belgium

JulietTango · 08/03/2020 20:48

Mumsnet are quick this evening.
I started typing the above reply when the thread was in aibu and when it posted it was in the Corona virus sectionGrin

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 08/03/2020 21:11

I live in Sheffield. Maybe we should erect a barrier all the way round the city!😁

Rosehip10 · 08/03/2020 21:35

The minute I saw "free market conservatives" I clicked close.

Rosehip10 · 08/03/2020 21:37

"Adam Hamdy is a novelist and screenwriter who has previously worked as a management and healthcare consultant"

Right, so we trust him over expert medical epidemiologists Grin

belay · 08/03/2020 21:45

Big overseas student population here in Sheffield and two large Universities

Echobelly · 08/03/2020 21:49

I did wonder whether short-term pain for later gain might be a good idea, but think of the logistics.

People have mentioned some of it here - basically you can't just do that without having a plan for getting food to people, public order, police/army deployment and a billion other things that haven't even ocurred to me. And this government clearly can't organise a piss up in a brewery

pfrench · 08/03/2020 22:04

Children being off school would make achievement gaps even bigger.
