Flying to Milan - FCO guidance

anappleadaykeeps · 08/03/2020 18:34

I am really confused re FCO guidance on flying to Milan - currently DD and DS are due to travel there next weekend.

EasyJet is still expecting flight to go ahead, so no cancellations or refunds.

FCO guidance HAS been updated today, but still only says the previous guidance.

I categorically would not be flying to Milan. It's on lockdown and you couldn't move around anywhere anyway!! You'd have to isolate when you return. You could infect, and kill, people with your selfishness.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 08/03/2020 18:39

Alitalia announced about an hour ago they won't be flying into Malpensa for the time being.
easyJet are still flying as far as I know.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 08/03/2020 18:40

It's not on lockdown as we understand it. Trains and planes are still entering. Current guidance is woolly. Your kids will be quarantined for 14 days on their return IF the status quo holds.

filka · 08/03/2020 18:40

By next weekend I would be surprised if you can still fly to Milan. And I think you'd all be instructed to self-quarantine on return.

Mooey89 · 08/03/2020 18:42

They’re all in quarantine in Milan! No way would I be flying there!

Thisisworsethananticpated · 08/03/2020 18:45

Ignore the FCO Wink only joking BUT
I think they are being bribed by the insurance sector
As a visit at minimum means 2 weeks quarantine

anappleadaykeeps · 08/03/2020 18:47

I am NOT the person taking them there .... it is my Ex Husband, and I absolutely wish this trip was cancelled.

His original plan was skiing in North Italy for the weekend. Planned back in December.

Two weeks ago he planned to scrap it completely.

Last week however, he planned to keep the existing Milan flights (non refundable) and get a hire car to drive to Switzerland to ski the weekend there instead.

Tricky one. The DM are reporting that people returning from Italy won't be tested or quarantined. Not sure how I feel about that!

KoalasandRabbit · 08/03/2020 18:54

It's definitely in quarantine - went in last night. I was very surprised FCO advice updated today but hadn't said no travel to there. Maybe it's as its the weekend and so FCO isn't fully staffed. Or it could be the government cares more about the insurance industry than people's health. Hopefully it's just the person who can change the colours on the map to red isn't in the FCO office until Monday. Grin

Do you not have parental rights for holidays?** You could stop him taking them surely!

Fco advising against all but essential travel to these cities including Milan

That'd be enough for me. Plus the fact by rights the government has asked anyone returning from the places listed to self isolate so you'd be without your kids for 3? Weeks. That's such a big nope.

anappleadaykeeps · 08/03/2020 19:01

That's new wording on the FCO site, versus 30 minutes ago. That's much more helpful.

KoalasandRabbit · 08/03/2020 19:04

That must have just changed - notice there's no map now. Grin but good it's advice has changed.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 08/03/2020 19:39

Last week however, he planned to keep the existing Milan flights (non refundable) and get a hire car to drive to Switzerland to ski the weekend there instead.

I think this is a very risky plan seeing as travel is not allowed from Lombardy. What if he gets stopped at the border and put into quarantine?

Wigeon · 08/03/2020 19:48

Thanks v much - I looked at the FCO advice this morning but it’s now crystal clear. Guess our trip to Venice in 4 weeks is off, but at least the insurance will pay out...

HonestlyItsFine · 08/03/2020 20:27

Milan is in lockdown. You can not leave the county/area/state/region (whatever term they use). It's quite likely they will be stuck there and have a miserable time.
It's also quite likely that the advice will change soon.

cologne4711 · 08/03/2020 20:45

As the FCO has finally changed its advice (not before time) the airlines should now cancel their flights so your ex should get a refund.
