Can anyone explain why flight prices have gone up?

I'm due to go to Cyprus at the end of June and flight prices have been steady at £150 each for months but I've been holding off booking and I assumed now so many people are putting off travelling they would have come down. Now they are over £200 each and are almost unaffordable as now it will make the flights too expensive for four of us combined so we may be forced to cancel anyway Confused

More to do with Flybe collapse and people rebooking flights

Not all have gone up. Some have definitely dropped.

Maybe some have gone up if they're to places which are currently less affected or as being 'more safe' therefore people more likely to consider..

Maybe airlines are reducing capacity.

VerbenaGirl · 08/03/2020 16:58

Maybe higher per person to cover the costs if flights are not selling out.

Strangely a local paper article appeared on my timeline and it does include this sentence:

"Popular places to go that currently have no infections include Poland, Cyprus and Turkey."

That could help, partially at least, explain why Cyprus flights might have currently increased.

I noticed Italy accommodation on booking.com went down on average about £200 three weeks ago, then up £400 last week. I thought that was strange. I don't know how much it usually fluctuates.

I've been watching prices for flights to Krakow, since December. Prices have more than doubled in the last two weeks.

Suspect because people are cancelling / moving holiday dates?

^ Mainly this.. ^

There are still people around who want or need to fly, the demand hasn’t completely dried up. At the same time the number of seats available for sale may be reducing because many airlines are cutting number of flights per day on certain routes, and on Longhaul many are using smaller aircraft..(For example Lufthansa have announced they are grounding their A380 Fleet TFN).

Many airlines are reducing the number of flights meaning less seats available which pushes up the price. Alternatively because less people are travelling they are increasing the flight cost to cover flights being emptied than usual, the same for hotels .
