Covid
I'm trying to buy a house - is coronavirus going to screw it up?
Greeniac · 08/03/2020 13:41
Just as the title suggests really. I know it's not as serious a problem as many have with the coronavirus, but we had two chains collapse on us last year and we're now living in a small rented place and desperate to move. I'm worried coronavirus is going to completely fuck it up again!

No advice but just wanted to say I'm in the same situation! Also somewhat worried about the effect of economic disruption on our ability to pay our brand new (max of our budget) mortgage...
Although our job are relatively secure it all feels a bit uncertain at the moment!!

Conveyancer here. We have had four meetings at work discussing this. If an employee was tested and had to isolate our office would be closed for deep cleaning. A handful of us can access the system remotely but it would cause some delay/disruption.

op l am trying to sell a house and have the same concerns...what if nobody comes and views?
HasaDigaEebowai · 08/03/2020 16:26
I think its inevitable that the housing market suffers disruption. Who would be viewing a house at the moment?
Bakedbrie · 08/03/2020 20:15
I’m selling a house and have a clutch of viewings lined up this week. Many people are working from home and it seems they can now fit in some impromptu viewings! Strange how things work out.
Youngatheart00 · 08/03/2020 20:16
I suppose it depends on where you are in your chain. It could delay things quite significantly. On the plus side property may be cheaper and / or more open to lower offers when the market moves again.
Mumumumu · 08/03/2020 20:26
Also in the same situation of currently buying a new home...worrying about it all!!
HeronLanyon · 08/03/2020 20:29
I currently have conveyancing, probate and tax solicitors. All were last week having contingency/planning meetings. All have warned me there may be disruption/delay with little notice but that I will be informed if so.
Good luck op.

On the plus side (there aren’t many) if we do go in to quarantine I imagine a lot will spend a lot of time on “property porn” ie scrolling Rightmove!! I know I will!!
