To book a holiday in a UK holiday cottage?

My Mum is in her late 80s, normally we go on holiday together after Easter. We stay in the UK in a holiday cottage. I’m not sure that we should go ahead. My Mum is pushing to get something booked.

Am I being over cautious ?

I’d just wait at the moment. If lockdown happens getting food etc may be an issue and what sort of holiday would that be?

TARSCOUT · 08/03/2020 14:12

Yes you are being over cautious. Get booked and enjoy your holiday. I am auto immune and am not doing anything to change how I live my life. Yes there might be lockdown, yes there might be a whe host of unforeseen events but you can't live life on what ifs.

I don't see that the risk of getting the virus would be any worse in a holiday cottage than at home. It may be better as you are not at work!

@Davincitoad lockdown doesn't mean no food. How would residents be getting food? Visitors would get it in the same way.

We have a cottage holiday starting next week! We will definitely be going Smile

Just book with a reputable company please not Air bnb. Most will offer a cancellation insurance which will give you a refund and the owner a refund in the event of any CV related need to cancel. I’m an owner with Classic Cottages and was hugely relieved to find out yesterday that our bookings will be fully insured.

I've booked to go to Dorset next weekend and I'm going to Cornwall in May. I'd booked Cornwall before this started but only booked Dorset last week.

Air bnb are a reputable company @Bakedbrie. Why are they not?

I have a cottage in Air BnB. Guests will be refunded if they are too ill to travel. The hosts are not refunded though.

The Classic insurance does sound amazing.

I rent my house to visitors through AirBnb and their refund policy for Coronavirus is on their home page. In a nutshell, if the guest needs to cancel (or the host) due to the virus, then you get a full refund, including all fees under extenuating circumstances.

Book it quick- I suspect there will be much more demand for UK holidays

I know it's a while away, but I've just booked a cottage in Wales for October half term. With it being out of the school holidays you could aways wait a week or so and see how things progress

I’ve just booked a week in Shaldon in Devon for June- I’m really looking forward to it- a UK Cottage holiday is about the safest holiday you can have- you can make your own food, do your own laundry and you don’t have to be in contact with others for long periods of time

We have holidays booked for two UK holiday cottage breaks over the coming months - I would see them as being quite a safe option . If you take food with you, you can then choose whether you go out to pub / cafe or not .
