Would you still book centre parks

We usually have a yearly trip to centre parcs in July - I'm wondering wether it would be a stupid idea to book this?

Were going next week too😭😭 getting anxious lol

flossletsfloss · 09/03/2020 12:59

We are going next week too! We will go unless advised otherwise but I'm thinking maybe not go in the pool?? Such a shame!

EmotionalEllie This will kill an awful lot more than 2000 people. We do all we can socially to minimise road deaths, and we should do all we can socially to minimise deaths now.
People still going on holiday is the equivalent of allowing people to drive tanked up on vodka with no insurance.
Some of us live in pretty rural areas, where holiday cottages are popular. Having people visit from cities where cases are likely to soon explode, increases the risk to us, as rural communities are the worst served regarding health care, and have an older population. So the thirty- forty something tourists and their small children carrying the virus will be fine, but the older locals they spread it to could die .
I live in rural Wales, we have the lowest number of beds pp, and an older community age than England. So someone’s nice holiday in a rural cottage, might cost an older person here their life.
Everyone needs to stop thinking only of themselves and their own risk, and instead think of the risk to the entire community.
We will get loads of holiday-makers over Easter, and I predict a huge rise in cases in my part of Wales then, where the nearest hospital is an hour away, and has an A&E with 8 hour waits or longer on any given weekend. Last time I was there a visibly unwell 80 year old man had been waiting for 7 hours for one tablet, after waiting all night to be seen. Our health service here will not cope with a large increase in cases after Easter, and people will die.
Stay at home.

I went to CP 3 years in a row with my parents who paid for it and wanted us to come along so they could holiday with the dc. The first year, DH and my Dad had norovirus but we put it down to bad luck. The following year, we all had a vomiting bug and I was tempted not to go back again but was convinced to return. Same thing, 2 days in = vomiting bug.

I then had a hiatus for 8 years and MIL booked for us all to go to celebrate FIL's retirement. I said I wasn't sure but everybody said it would be fine. SIL, BIL, DNephew and SIL2 had noro. I was extremely cross when SIL1 stopped vomiting in the am and was in the pool by 2pm. It's pretty obvious that ill people + the humid pool = germ central. I refused to go swimming and sat in the cafe. Got chatting to another Mum. Both her DC had come down with chickenpox while there. Sure enough, two dc in the soft play, both with fresh pox.

I'm sure I missed a memo somewhere but evidently, CP is home of bum sex and communicable diseases. There's a nice Venn diagram for you.

Wild horses would not drag me back.

We’ve just booked for June. Hoping the peak of the outbreak will be over by then.
We never usually bother with their cancellation insurance, but have purchased this time. hopefully if we have to cancel on gp’s advice, that will cover us. Assuming that they will refund / reschedule if they cancel.

RachelEllenRE · 09/03/2020 13:38

@flossletsfloss we are also going next week unless cancelled by then/government. We will be using the pool as that's the main attraction for us.

FoxBaseBeta · 09/03/2020 13:45

I've just had an email that the balance needs paying by the 20th March for our trip at the end of May/start June...aaagghh what to do, we did get free cancellation insurance at least as part of their come back soon deal at least...

Willow4987 · 10/03/2020 07:51

We’re booked to go at the end of April and unless advice changes/it shuts we will be going

I’ve got an 19month old and a 3 week old at the moment. The baby won’t be going in the pool now. He will have had his jabs but I’m not risking it with this virus. It’s a shame as I was looking forward to us all swimming as a family.

NotGenerationAlpha · 10/03/2020 09:07

I've booked for the may half term. We have to pay the remaining cost by end of this month. We aren't sure but think we'll pay and hope it'll all be good by end of May.

In your shoes, I'll wait before booking.

ClubfootMaestro · 10/03/2020 10:29

If the pool is properly chlorinated then isn’t the evidence that it’s not likely to be transmitted via water? I was researching this because I take my daughter swimming on a Saturday and was wondering whether I should stop.

I understand the point about handrails etc but this doesn’t only apply to swimming pools.

Samila · 10/03/2020 21:43

I am
Due to go next week to centre parcs with a toddler and baby. We have saved up for this holiday and can't really afford to cancel. Am
Just very anxious about going now..

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 11/03/2020 06:01

We got back Monday from centre parcs Thetford and we are all fine!

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 11/03/2020 14:57

We've already booked for Easter, but not the UK centre parcs (so added fun of hoping we can still get a crossing ok!). If we can go, we will, but if I hadn't booked yet, wouldn't be for Easter.

We haven't booked our main summer holiday, and normally go end of July, but this year are waiting to see what the situation is, and also if we can pick up cheaper deals.

I wouldn't book any holiday for July as yet, wait and see what the situation is, and you'll surely pickup cheap deals.

rosieposies · 11/03/2020 23:32

Just had a look at prices again and if anything they've gone up!! Weird.

I think if I'd already booked I'd follow CP's advice on whether or not it's safe to go, they're not cancelling anyone's holidays yet so I'm sure it's fine. I would imagine they're going to be pretty hot on cleaning etc. I would probably steer clear of elderly/at risk relatives for a bit after coming back though just to be on the safe side.

Centre parcs closed guys from tomorrow

Mseddy · 12/03/2020 17:14

@anisha12 just to stop more fake news spreading. Longford forest in Ireland closes tomorrow, in line with the Irish governments position to restrict indoor gatherings of more than 100 people. The rest of the UK parks remain open. Ive been watching closely as we are due to go on Monday to sherwood.

Anisha12 · 12/03/2020 17:15

**in Longford forest!

Anisha12 · 12/03/2020 17:17

@Mseddy Yes you're e correct!

Mseddy · 12/03/2020 17:21

I'm not counting my chickens for Monday just yet! Got my eye on a few cottages ready for a last minute change! All we can do is cross our fingers I guess!

Samila · 13/03/2020 16:02

Just received an email from CP saying that they are relaxing there terms and conditions about re arranging if you wanted too..

Mseddy · 13/03/2020 16:33

Yeah I got that email too. We can't rearrange dates because of 4 adults trying to align their annual leave. Especially given I'm a nurse so I can't imagine my employer are going to be happy me moving my holidays further into the year when things may potentially get worse. I'm just crossing everything that it doesn't get cancelled

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 16/03/2020 16:55

Well our Netherlands CPs has been cancelled, but they are offering a voucher not a refund. Most annoyed, told DH (who booked it and got the details) we need to call up and complain to get money back.

If we can get teh money back (and everyone is well at easter), I might see if I can get a cottage holiday somewhere in the UK that's not so busy. Shame to waste DH's holiday allowance, don't think he can cancel the leave now.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 16/03/2020 17:28

I've booked for June, paid deposit and balance to pay next month. Not sure whether to write it off and lose the deposit now.

rosieposies · 17/03/2020 20:28

Sorry for those of you booked in between now and 16th April 😓 hope you all get a refund or can rebook ASAP

Maybe for summer of 2022 ...

Read an article from the Imperial London collage this could go on for 18 months till summer 2021 with a second wave.
