Anyone else terrified about not being able to work due to CV?

Whether that’s due to school being closed, or clients cancelling, or me catching CV. I’m self employed. No work means no income at all. I’m just about meeting my bills now. If I don’t work I’m screwed. I rent privately. I don’t get any housing benefit. I’m getting really worried now.

Some banks have posted updates on deferred mortgage payments and charges/interest for withdrawing on credit cards worth looking at if it helps

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/03/2020 13:49

Just checked with our insurer - they had a buried list of conditions and they won't be adding to it. They're taking complaints to pass to the underwriter (separate firm, fairly normal) but right now no cover.

So not the same story, but same outcome. Assuming this isn't reversed then I would expect a large proportion of nurseries and after school clubs go under unless the government has some very impressive measures to announce in the budget

Itsjustmee · 10/03/2020 14:21

I think it’s fucking awful that insurance companies can get out of paying for this there needs to be a big shakedown on insurance companies doing this shit .
DH & I are SE but we have no mortgage relatively low bills and large amount of savings and credit cards if necessary so even at the very worse we would be relatively ok if we had to take time off And we would still probably make a bit of money
No young kids either which makes a big difference
i really feel for those that would suffer from this

The Italian government has just announced measures and they have temporarily suspended mortgage and bill payments. I assume the U.K. may do the same??

Ireland has already implemented measures to insure ppl will have money.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 20:41

No they haven't.
Or, if they have, they haven't told the Italian people.

Maythelordopen1 · 10/03/2020 21:28

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress well it was in the news so 🤷‍♀️

bluehighlighter · 10/03/2020 21:36

I was speaking to someone in Italy, and he said that mortgage payments have been suspended. He said that in Italy they take care of you. I don't think we have a government like that in the UK - do you?

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 21:44

I think your friend may be having you on.
I have no idea about the govt in the UK but I can assure you that here in Italy, our mortgages will still need to be paid, as will our utility bills.
Our govt (the Italian one) is wondering if anything can be done to have a freeze on payments but this is a country which was already on its knees economically before Coronavirus.
We are all very much hoping for a mortgage freeze but it seems pretty unlikely as the banks keep having to be bailed out by the govt anyway.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/03/2020 21:54

Cbs are carrying a story re italian mortgage freeze

www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-italy-mortgage-payments-suspended-as-outbreak-sparks-lockdown-quarantine-deaths-economy-travel/

bluehighlighter · 10/03/2020 21:55

The Italian mortgage freeze is on UK and American news networks.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/03/2020 21:58

Yes, it was on BBC news this morning.
It's just not been mentioned here beyond a "we will do what we can to help people perhaps with a mortgage freeze"
And the Italian mortgage payers laughed. Oh, how we laughed.

EYProvider · 11/03/2020 00:51

@StatisticallyChallenged - My insurance company is Morton Michel, same as yours.

There’s no doubt that this will finish the childcare industry. It’s only a small comfort but a comfort nonetheless that it will also finish Morton Michel. There won’t be any nurseries left for them to sell insurance to.

Sgtmajormummy · 11/03/2020 01:21

If you consider many Italian mortgages are on 3% interest, deferring payments for 2 or 3 months is not such a far-fetched scenario. I’ll believe it when I see it, though...

DH is on a four-day week with the fifth from his holiday allowance. That means a slight reduction in salary but nothing huge.
I get paid after 90 days in many cases so it hasn’t hit me yet.

However, DS is fully funded by us at University, like most Italians. We’re letting him have another week in his University residence as he says he studies better there. University and all libraries are closed. Then we’ll start weighing up the cost/benefits of his weekly allowance vs. having everybody under one roof.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 11/03/2020 07:03

Sgt- dp is dipendente but in a firm which exports and work has all but dried upm they'll probably stop by the end of this week for a while. Not sure if it will be full cassa integratione or what.
We're fucked though. But healthy. Which is the main thing.
Hope you and yours all are too!

Sgtmajormummy · 11/03/2020 09:16

Thanks for the good wishes, Bookme Smile.

The family’s fine. As I’ve said on other threads, here in Friuli the population is shit-hot on self policing. A town of busybodies is what I’ve called it in the past. Now I’m having to eat my words!

And the figures are showing it. In spite of being sandwiched between Veneto and Venice (previous Red zones) we have one of the lowest death and infection rates in the country.

theneverendinglaundry · 11/03/2020 09:26

It won't personally affect my family but I am worried for others.

I am a SAHM - if they close our school I will be helping out the other parents as much as possible and inviting children round the house. It kind of defeats the whole point of closing schools if children then all congregate somewhere else though!
