Interviews by Coronavirus victims

Salene · 08/03/2020 08:43

Has anyone seen any interviews from people who have recovered from Coronavirus.? I'd be interested to read how the illness progressed etc but I can find nothing.? Surely there must be a story in it, I'd of thought the papers would have jumped on the chance.

Where are all the people who have recovered from it.?

Thanks

Sounds lovely 😬

"The doctor prescribed antibiotics for the pneumonia but I’m reluctant to take them — I’m worried that my body will become resistant to the drugs and, if I ever get really ill and need them, they won’t work. I prefer to beat this with traditional remedies if I can."

That could have ended badly

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 08/03/2020 09:05

@tellmetostopbutikeepongoing what an idiot Shock

I have pneumonia but I'm waiting until I really need antibiotics before I take them Hmm

Pilot12 · 08/03/2020 09:17

If he was that sick how did he manage to write a diary everyday? I expect it was written after the event and there could be some exaggeration added either by him or the DM to make the story more "exciting". Also if you're that sick you take all the medication you're given, the fact that he was well enough to consider not taking it suggests he wasn't that sick?

Davincitoad · 08/03/2020 09:20

I thought it was odd that it’s very hard to find anyone who has recovered. Either they want anonymity or they are being ignored.

Davincitoad · 08/03/2020 09:21

Also antibiotics don’t work on viral pneumonia which is what this virus is....

Moomin8 · 08/03/2020 09:28

I've just heard a guy in his 50s talking about his experience on radio 4. He was it Italy in one of the infected areas with his wife and they decided to self isolate when back in the U.K. he said they were given zero advice at all and did this of their own accord (self isolation) not easy because they are both self employed but they wanted to do the right thing.

He came down with the virus and she did not. He said for him the worst bit lasted about 3 days. He's now better but his wife can't leave the house for 2 more weeks.

I should imagine nobody wants to be treated like a leper. After all, can you imagine how people would react to someone they know has had it? Sensible behaviour has pretty much gone out of the window.

Salene · 08/03/2020 09:32

Moomin that's interesting so his experience was 3 days but the daily mail say it was nearer 30. I'm thinking it's likely that someone in my house will eventually get it so it would be nice to know in advance exactly what to expect.

I watched a couple on the news who both had it on one of the cruise ships. They looked to be in their forties or fifties.

She said she had a fever and night sweats. He said he had no symptoms at all. Both of them recovered then caught it again, both had no symptoms the second time.

tellmetostopbutikeepongoing · 08/03/2020 09:37

But he didn't know that when he was prescribed the antibiotics! So it was a risky move. If you had bacterial pneumonia and tried to cure it with tiger balm I'm pretty sure you'd fail

neeting · 08/03/2020 09:44

Antibiotics are prescribed as a matter of course to prevent secondary infection. He should have taken them!

Xenia · 08/03/2020 09:50

Radio 4 this morning had one man on. He and his wife were in ski lift queues of 1000 people in Italy and learned later the virus was out there so were very worried. They came home by an ordinary flight (not ill) and then chose to self isolate even though they are both self employed and have not been paid for tthe last 2 weeks never mind when they were on holiday.

The man then came down with it - started with a sore throat, then a bit flu like and a few other interseting things but not too bad and within 3 days he as getting better -he feel 70% better already. they had to drive to an NHS pod for a test to be done - swab etc and he has had it and is now waiting for the all clear. His wife however has to start another 2 weeks from now (she doesn't have it but I suppose might have caught it from him last week). he sounded about mid 30s or 40s.

Kawahara · 08/03/2020 09:51

He's now better but his wife can't leave the house for 2 more weeks.

He shoildnr be leaving the house either, as its though you can catch it twice.

If the wife does have it, she could pass it back to him again. If he is out and about he could be passing it on.

That advice is not hard to find

Xenia · 08/03/2020 09:58

Yes, I don't think he has had any all clear to leave yet either. He is certainly doing everything he has been advised to do. We are very lucky people like that couple came home and self isolated - apparently there was hardly anyone at the air port when they arrived home either and they kept big distances from anyone too and chose to self isolate.

The more people who get it the harder it is going to be to stop. He said there were over 1000 people in the lift queue in italy in a very confined space before anyone knew it was taking hold there. I presume they were from all over the world and went back home on packed flights and many probably went back to work not even realising they had to self isolate or might have it.

Moomin8 · 08/03/2020 10:05

No, he's not leaving the house either until he's rested negative for 2
Weeks

Moomin8 · 08/03/2020 10:06

@Xenia no he was in his 50s - the radio programme says this.

Kawahara · 08/03/2020 10:15

Confused as to why it was specifically pointed out that she couldnt leave for a further 2 weeks then.

Defenestratethecat · 08/03/2020 10:21

The man on BH this morning is certainly worth a listen - calm, factual, sensible.

Moomin8 · 08/03/2020 10:37

Sorry @Kawahara I'm autistic and sometimes miss out key information.

unluckyagain · 08/03/2020 10:42

I know someone who is recovering. They were very ill for a few days but now feeling almost back to normal. A small number of friends/family also tested positive but have no symptoms other than one has a slight sore throat.

Xenia · 08/03/2020 10:47

I didn't hear the 50s bit (the skiing in Italy people) so I just assumed from their voice they were 30s or 40s. Anyway he recovered in 3 days and he praised the advice he has had since he got back - i agree he also said when they were travelling back there was no advice at the air port etc but suspect that was because it was relatively early days in terms of Italy.

He had a lot of praise for the authorities since he was back and the taking of samples, test results and advice since.
