To go on holiday twice this year?

I have something booked for May but I'm thinking of booking for just me and DS for September.

AIBU in the sense that I'd be unreasonable to myself? I am so confused about it all. Why would I care if I got the coronavirus? It won't kill me, very very unlikely. Obviously I do have loved ones who are old now and could be extremely ill from it. I'll just stay away from them completely.

What on earth is all this fuss about? I actually feel very annoyed now. I don't think it's such a huge deal if thousands start coming out with it. Surely its just another mild illness for most, and we just need to worry about protecting our elderly and those with severely compromised immune systems?

Yabu to start another coronavirus threat covertly

BudgieHammockBananaSmuggler · 08/03/2020 08:13

Thread obvs, but threat works!

So go on holiday then and don't worry about it. Everyone has to make their own choices.

It depends if the area you’ve chosen is in quarantine. I went to Lombardy last year, I wouldn’t be going now.

I'm just perplexed at all the hysteria from respectable sources. Even the BBC news is starting to be dramatic now Confused

We have corona in the uk, as long as you’re not booking one of the country’s that are categorised and you take precautions as you would here I’m not sure why it would put you at more risk?

Think of all our flight crews pinging here there and everywhere!

If thousands do get it it will be harder to protect the more vulnerable but it’s already being passed person to person here.

WreckTangled · 08/03/2020 08:25

Do you think the Italians and Chinese are just making a big fuss over nothing? Shutting down entire cities for a mild cold and hospitals at breaking point?

That could be the UK in two weeks. It might not but it's a real possibility not sure what's so hard to understand really. A couple of weeks ago Italy had the same amount of cases as the UK and now they're in the thousands.

I don't think people should be panic buying and isolating their whole family unnecessarily but it's still a serious situation we're facing.

That said if you want to book a holiday then do it just ensure your insurance will still cover you if you get it or if your holiday is cancelled because of it. Hopefully it wouldn't be but best to be sure.

mumto2teenagers · 08/03/2020 08:32

I don’t think you are unreasonable booking a couple of holidays, we are planning on booking our summer holiday soon and will just check our insurance covers us should we need to cancel.

We will still go unless the Foreign office advises against travel to the area we are travelling to.

Cornettoninja · 08/03/2020 08:38

I find it odd that you’ve decided factual reporting is ‘being dramatic’. There’s a point where keep calm and carry on turns into denial.

I mean crack on with your holidays by all means if that’s what you want to do but I’d have a think about your critical thinking skills if you think that governments and scientists around the world are just reacting for shits and giggles.

VVV unreasonable to sneak yet another coronavirus thread in with a trick title.

Largeyellowdaffodil · 08/03/2020 09:13

I am going on holiday at least 6 times. Italy next weekend to begin with (as I imagine at 20,000 others who were booked to go to the rugby in Rome)

LilyMumsnet · 08/03/2020 09:13

We're just moving this thread over to the right topic now. Flowers

dontdisturbmenow · 08/03/2020 09:16

I'm more cancelled with companies folding, insurance not paying as covered under a small print, or being stuck wherever we are, which although not the end of the world, would be quite annoying and make the holiday not worth taking at that time.

Like everything it's a risk as if all goes well, prices are as good as they get nowadays.

shinynewapple2020 · 08/03/2020 09:22

I don't think it's unreasonable to book for September - who knows what will have happened by then? We are booked to go to Portugal in September and I'm certainly not worried about that at the moment. A bit concerned around DS and his friends who are going to Spain in April - not so much for DS who is young and healthy - I don't want anything bought back to us as DH and I are late 50's with elderly and unwell parents - but nothing would stop DS going to crowded bars in this country so 🤷‍♀️
