Had an idea on how to visit elderly relatives safely

I've been so worried about this as like a lot if people I have parents who are 80+ with health issues...my mum would be unlikely to survive CV 😪

I haven't been able to visit for a month now for various reasons and thus week I've had an innocuous cold....but I'm taking no chances

So I had a thought. If I park up bumper to bumper with mum and dad's car and they sit in their car, we can see each other through the windscreens so have visual contact. We each have a flask of coffee and our phones! We can chat, wave, blow kisses....all safely contained within our cars Smile

Lovely idea. You could also FaceTime or Skype for some extra contact instead of texting or phoning.

Hi @wintercat....yes, that would be great....mum and I both have Android. Anyone know what the best Facetime equivalent is for Android?

Probably Google Hangouts.

WinterCat · 07/03/2020 11:08

Sorry, I’ve not used Android. They should be able to access Skype on their home computers without an issue (assuming they have one).

Or if they are still mobile maybe you could meet up outdoors somewhere like a park and make sure you stay a few metres away from each other. That way you wouldn't need to rely on your phones to communicate.

Thanks @LegArmpits...will check that out. Nice idea @mrsbevvy but they aren't keen on being out and about at the moment.

WhatsApp for video calling.

MadameGazelleIsMyHomegirl · 07/03/2020 11:21

Or meet in a park and go for a walk together? (If they are mobile enough)

DM doesn't have internet access, and is in her 80s.Think we will be limited to phone calls and leaving food parcels at her front door, if it gets to the point where elderly people are advised to stay indoors and avoiding people.
