Self isolating

Hi! I really dont mean to add to any panic surrounding coronavirus, but I was wondering what you would all do if you were unfortunate enough to have to self isolate. We have a very lively small dog who needs 2 walks a day. Anything less and he would go bonkers. At weekends he has an extra long walk both days (usually a few hours of walking.) Our garden is small and he doesn't play fetch so we cant even exercise him much at home.
Thanks to anyone who read this.

Are you sure? Works for me. Anyway the legislation is the Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulations 2020. You can search for it on the legislation.gov.uk website if it doesn't work on the link.

Linked worked for me and even with legal jargon it is pretty clear

"Enforcement
13.—(1) Where a requirement is imposed on a person to be detained or kept in isolation under regulation 4, 5 or 8, a constable may do any of the following—

^(a)take the person to a suitable place, specified by the Secretary of State or a public health officer, for the person’s detention or isolation;
(b)keep the person in detention or isolation.^
(2) Where a person absconds from detention or isolation imposed under regulation 4, 5 or 8, a constable may take the person into custody and return the person to the place of detention or isolation, or take the person to another suitable place specified by a public health officer.
(3) A constable may use reasonable force, if necessary, in the exercise of a power under this regulation."

I've thought about this quite a bit. If no-one in my household was ill, but we had to self-isolate, I would walk him very early in the morning, somewhere remote. This would obviously depend on having petrol in the car, as I wouldn't be able to fill it up. I would take poo bags home with me and dispose of them in our wheelie bin.

If I was sick, then he would have to make do with the garden. I'm not quite sure what the rules are and whether or not I could send him to my parents? Presumably not as he would have to be isolated too?

This is what I get when I press the link...

Self isolating

Thanks for the info anyway even though I can't get to it myself.

Hasa I've just seen you on another thread saying you're taking your children out of school at the end of the week no matter what the official advice. So for you, you plan to ignore official advice and use your own judgment and perception of the risk but for others doing so they're irresponsible, selfish etc?

🤔

Don't be a twat. My actions are taking extra precautions not ignoring the minimum level of precautions set down by the government. Hmm

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 08/03/2020 12:43

I would take the dog out but to an isolated place and would make sure I cover my mouth with a facemask (they are advised only for those with symptoms or in isolation). Don't talk to anyway and always remain at least 1m away from everyone.

YgritteSnow · 08/03/2020 12:49

Yet, still you're ignoring official advice yourself but attacking others who are taking a considered approach to their own situation.

You're very rude aren't you? Smile

longearedbat · 08/03/2020 13:06

On a purely practical level, there are insuffient police to investigate crimes we have at the moment anyway, so I don't see where all the constables are going to appear from to see whether Mrs Jones from down the road is nipping out with her dog in the middle of the night.
Can't believe the hysteria on here. This thread should be in the corona virus topic anyway.

LilyMumsnet · 08/03/2020 13:14

We're just moving this over to the right topic now. Flowers

YgritteSnow · 08/03/2020 13:19

Maybe add dogs into the title so people realise it isn't just yet another general thread about self isolating @LilyMumsnet?

Undomesticgodde55 · 08/03/2020 13:19

Surely dogs would carry the virus you you were poorly? Didn't it start with animals? I would have thought if you need to self isolate with your family that included the dog/cat pets etc.
