So these people who have been diagnosed....are they just self isolating? Are they being treated with meds or not because it's viral... Im confused

I heard on the radio that a couple returned from Italy are "being managed at home"
I'm assuming they're fit younger people who are perhaps suffering with milder symptoms 🤷🏽‍♀️

Would like to hear of first hand accounts though.

I just suddenly thought...we keep getting updates of how many people in the uk have it but what happens to them. Is there any meds to treat it

Also.. can it be caught twice?

Snowpatrolling · 05/03/2020 19:23

My friend managed to catch swine flu! God knows how, and she had tamiflu posted through her letter box, I’m not sure how they are treating g this one tho, would be interesting to know.

picklebarrelfalls · 05/03/2020 19:24

Apparently a couple of drugs have been found to help. They definitely weren't cures though so I'm guessing they won't be available to the wider world.

I'm sure I read that someone in China has reported being re infected.

I think a lot of people who think they have it won’t even bother ringing 111 or being tested for it as there’s no treatment for it, just literally stay home and medicate with paracetamol as you would for flu. I don’t think we will know how many people actually have it.

Mustbetimeforachange · 05/03/2020 19:26

No meds to treat it, it's a virus. In some places they are trying antivirals used against such things as HIV. Treatment would presumably be supportive of the effects on the body, secondary infections etc. Unlikely to get it twice as once you have antibodies to it you won't get it again like other viruses.

LameSword · 05/03/2020 19:57

Aren't there two strains though? The original milder, less severe one and then a new mutated, more severe one. I've seen a few articles about it. So if that's true, in theory you could get it twice.

Mustbetimeforachange · 05/03/2020 22:13

In theory, yes. Like different flu strains.
