GP deep cleaning

NC for this, because I'm sure I'm being overly anxious.
I keep seeing posters saying how not worried they are about coronavirus and I need to borrow some of that confidence!

My local GP is closed today for deep cleaning. They have stated in texts to those who had appointments today that it's a precaution but surely they must have a reason to be doing it now.

My baby has his first jabs booked for Monday at the GP and now I'm quite nervous about taking him in, even though I am probably going to have to because his jabs are something we strongly want to get when he needs them. I understand that he's not as at risk as elderly people, but no parent wants their child to suffer, and I would hate for him to get it.

My big worry is even if they deep clean, the staff could already have it.
Please tell me I'm being paranoid!

I wouldn't worry about this. The real worry is people going out and about without anyone knowing they've got it. The building is being cleaned, the staff won't be allowed to work if there's any risk to the public. It'll be alright Thanks

our family member is a gp receptionist and has been saying they all feel 'exposed' and its a day by day thing to find out if they have this after dealing with the public who do not listen to advice....they go in to the surgery anyway!

also....who is 'deep cleaning'? and what does this consist of, because if they are doing multiple surgeries/hospitals/schools etc as a regular cleaning contract as well then surely they will just be spreading it all? lets face it, they are just wearing gloves, no other special clothing, not that that would do anything

i actually think 'deep cleaning' is futile and not as effective as the public think. ten mins after reopening the entire place could be re-infected...who knows?

I think it is your health boards precautionary measures you shouldbe reasurred (sp) The cleaning company probably were on a time slot iyswim.

GingerGingerGingerGinger · 05/03/2020 12:52

I doubt it is actually possible to deep clean a whole GP surgery in one day.

SapphireSalute · 05/03/2020 12:59

who cleans them? 0 contract hours on minimal wage....wouldnt be holding out for these cleans tbh

IStressheadI · 05/03/2020 16:19

Found out that the GP is actually closed until Monday and is apparently being cleaned by workers in protective clothing, but there's nothing about if there has actually been anyone around here with the virus.
I guess I'll just have to wait for more information. I also have a general checkup for the baby the day after his jabs, and I'm a little worried all that will be a lot on his little immune system.
This isn't the easiest time to be a first time mum! Confused

Going in the day it's been opened after deep cleaning might be the best day to go! And things will only get worse in the next few weeks rather than better. I can understand your concern but missing the vaccinations is a risk too.

boringadvice · 05/03/2020 17:27

I was literally just about to say that straight after a deep clean is the best time to go. If you're still concerned then don't use the seating and maybe use a tissue to open any doors. Don't touch your mouth/eyes and wash your hands after.

boringadvice · 05/03/2020 17:28

I'v always found the 8 week check absolutely useless, just a few questions about how I'm feeling so if you are feeling well and think you're coping I'd be tempted to cancel it.
