WWYD — inform potential visitors of local cases?

We've had three confirmed cases of Corona in our town on mainland Europe. DHs parents — both 79 are due to visit us in two weeks.

Should we tell them about the confirmed cases?

Should we say nothing, we've not been told to take any action, there is no travel advice for our area, and just carry on as normal?

I presume they'd lose their flight costs of they cancel now too.

WWYD?

Meant to add that there are no underlying health concerns that we know about.

At 79 I'd tell them and leave the decision to them.

onalongsabbatical · 05/03/2020 09:34

Yes, I'd tell them. Then I'd expect them to make their own informed choice one way or the other and I wouldn't criticise it either way, because there's really no deciding for others on these things (unless others are for some reason less competent?)

halcyondays · 05/03/2020 09:36

I’d tell them.

OddBoots · 05/03/2020 09:36

It is 2 weeks until they visit, sadly there is the potential for lots to happen in 2 weeks with this situation, I would only tell them at this stage if they ask. When it gets to a couple of days before then you can give them the complete picture for that time.

halcyondays · 05/03/2020 09:37

They’re nearly 80, their age could put them at greater risk even if they don’t have any specific health problems.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/03/2020 09:41

Tell them and let them decide. If the situation in Europe continues to deteriorate flights may we’ll be cancelled and they will get a refund from the airline.
I live in China and all my flights for Feb, March and April were cancelled by the airlines - various airlines and various locations outside China.

LemonBreeland · 05/03/2020 09:47

Even if you didn't have confirmed cases in your area, I would be telling them not to travel. They are taking a risk passing through airports at their age. I think everyone should be rethinking travelling at all, even within their own country at the moment.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/03/2020 11:24

I agree with Lemon . I would be telling them not to travel. They are in a higher risk group if they do get ill, but also we all have a communal responsibility to avoid groups of people as much as possible now, to slow spread of the virus.

doradoo · 05/03/2020 15:27

I think setting out the current situation here and letting them decide for themselves is probably best. Three more cases today so only increasing.....

I would tell them, I agree with letting them make the decision for themselves!

Just today, my employer (UK) has banned all air travel, and any international travel by other means. We can travel in our own country for work but should restrict this as much as possible. It is about sensible precautions
