Due to go to mexico

I’m due to go to Mexico at Easter. Myself, dh and 2 dd’s.
dd1 has severe health issues. I’m not worried about actually going to Mexico. But I am worried about going through the airport, being on a place etc. Then...if we have caught it during travelling....the heath care in Mexico!!!

Arghhhhh!!!!!

When I mention this out loud at home, dh gets all defensive about me ‘not wanting to go!’ I really really want to go!! But I don’t want health risks!!!!!!

What would you do?!?!

It’s still a month or more until Easter - do nothing yet. Plan to go but be ready to be flexible with your plans (ie cancel and go another time) if things don’t look good at the time. If one of your has medical needs you will likely be able to get a doctor to recommend you don’t travel. Or it may by that the foreign office has changed guidance on international travel by then. Presuming you have comprehensive insurance?

No need to panic just yet (or at all!)

Thank you.

We’ve decided to cancel. Just don’t feel we can take the risk. We’d never forgive ourselves. Mexico doesn’t have the same level of heath care as here, so the fear would be if we were poorly while there.

Private health care in Mexico should be fine.
But probably good decision to cancel

I was at an airport this week and about 50% of people were wearing masks. I had to fly but don't know if I'd fancy it for fun.

Did you get a refund?

Youngatheart00 · 07/03/2020 22:03

Sensible decision - you want to be able to totally relax when there, and during your journey to and from, and with circumstances as they are that likely wouldn’t be the case.

Were you refunded?

midwestspring · 07/03/2020 22:22

Canceling seems sensible given the risk of going through airports with a vulnerable dc.

Private healthcare in Mexico is excellent, to be honest better than the NHS in my experience) Obviously much less equitable for society so I'm not suggesting we swap. But not a concern.

My friend lives in Mexico and the healthcare seems pretty good however you've obviously made the decision giving you peace of mind.

Flossie44 · 07/03/2020 22:32

Not sure if we will be refunded. It’s a chance I’m prepared to take to keep my family as safe as I can. Although, there’s some cases in our town now, but we are at home..and our local
Healthcare team know my dd well

Private HC in Mexico is excellent
A lady in my hotel slipped and fractured / broke her hip
She had a hip replacement and her husband said the care was excellent far better than the NHS
However that’s private healthcare
It’s probably to late to get a refund I would imagine so I wouldn’t cancel yet leave it till the last moment
If it’s a package deal then def don’t cancel until last minute
If you go Just make sure you have good insurance and have declared all medical issues

Another one saying that private HC in Mexico is superb.
