To use a public swimming pool despite COVID 19?

I just suddenly thought maybe it’s not a good idea.
YABU = don’t swim till it’s over
YANBU = it’s fine chlorine kills everything

Dd is disabled and loves swimming. We’ve promised to take her on Friday as a prize for learning to dress independently. I’m worried it’s not safe but she won’t understand.

Probably one of the cleanest places you can go; at least people will have washed their hands by the time they leave
IKEA888 · 04/03/2020 20:44
the cleaners / safest place you could be
the chlorine will 100% kill coronovirus dead.
prob be a plan for the government to make it compulsory 6x a day!
Yogawoogie · 04/03/2020 20:44
I’ve swam every day for the past fortnight and didn’t even consider it.
5zeds · 04/03/2020 20:48
I guess it worried me because they have rules about not swimming if you’ve had D and V, so I suddenly thought...yikes.
user1494182820 · 04/03/2020 20:49
😂😂😂
I'm a prepper who takes this fairly seriously. Even I think this is nuts.
Bunnybigears · 04/03/2020 20:53

That is because they dont want possible poo and vomit in their pool. My son swims 12 hours a week with his swim club and they have said nothing about stopping going or cutting down so I would say it's fine.
Butterymuffin · 04/03/2020 20:54
That's because they don't want the D or V emerging one more time in the pool from someone who's not fully over it, not because it'll get passed on. Ill coughing folk are also less likely than most to go swimming, I would think.
Also, have just read on here that people under 20 are only getting mild cases.
5zeds · 04/03/2020 20:57
I know young ones aren’t to be worried about but we have older ones who are too. I didn’t realise they were worried you were going to “go” in the pool! I thought it was like school 48 hours till you’re not infectious.
Cacaca · 04/03/2020 21:00
Yawn - surely pools would be closed if they were considered a big risk.
feelingverylazytoday · 04/03/2020 21:05
I'm going swimming tomorrow. My life is going to carry on as normal until I'm officially instructed otherwise.
polkadotpixie · 04/03/2020 21:13
I'd go but then I'm of the mindset that I'm going to carry on my life as normal until instructed otherwise by the government
AddressLabel · 04/03/2020 21:25
Hadn't even thought about swimming pools. Toddler is going to his swimming lesson at the weekend just the same!
itsgettingweird · 04/03/2020 21:30
My ds is also disabled.
He's a swimmer and trains 6 times a week.
I figure a good dip in chlorine can't harm him!
picklemewalnuts · 04/03/2020 21:33
This is reassuring. I swim weekly, then sit in the steam room. I'm not sure about the steam room, but at least it's hot.
