So they aren't closing until a vaccine is developed, just for 2 weeks

Some strange presumptions on this thread. The Italian population are taking this seriously and not panicking!

I’m in Friuli and high school kids are definitely not meeting up in large numbers for parties. I was planning DC2’s birthday party for Saturday as schools were due back on Monday. Cancelled after today’s announcement as the only responsible course of action. All the kids’ social communication is by WhatsApp and the school is sending out extra homework via the site. All-Italy INVALSI exams (Maths, Italian and English) were done in High School this week and ours will have to be some time before June.

University DC1 (lives in a student flat) came home for 4 days and is back in his house studying alone or in pairs as all libraries are closed. Not on the rampage every night.

Working parents who have to take care of small children (no preschools are open) are given holiday leave by the hour or remote working. Tomorrow DH’s company is deciding for a 4-day week with compulsory leave and/or postponing hours given for work courses.

We’re managing. We’re doing as we’re told. And waiting for the storm to pass. Maybe Friuli, with its history of earthquakes and high numbers of volunteers in the Protezione Civile, is taking it more seriously. But it’s a general feeling that the job is getting done properly and the population has to collaborate.
A sense of forbearance for those who are in panic mode, too. Not one person on the streets of Trieste was wearing a face mask on Monday. The shop assistants in the Chinese shops near the station are forced to wear them by a local law. Nearly every customer commented and was supportive.

I'm in the south east and it's party time.
No presumptions, just what my 300 liceo students are doing right now.
The students from the Bocconi and the Cattolica from here have been back home for 3 weeks and have most definitely been having the time of their lives.
As I said, either on this thread or another (there are so many) the mothers have been insisting on school closures for days. The elementari were closed for deep cleaning today and so they were all out and about in the parks enjoying the warmth of the early spring sunshine.

Invalsi were NOT done nationally this week.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 04/03/2020 23:18

The invalsi will be in May, as usual.

Sgtmajormummy · 04/03/2020 23:24

5a Superiore were scheduled for this week.
Scuola media in April.

Maybe where you are. Ours are from 7th May onwards. I thought they were nationally done too, but seemingly not.
