To think that hand washing is all very but

Unless it's followed up with robust & antibacterial cleaning of mobile phones, handsets in offices, light switches, door handles - basically anything communal or that we might put near our faces/mouths, then it's all a moot point anyway?
(This is my very 1st AIBU so hope I've done it correctly Smile)

I’m much more careful now but a toddler is hard in a public space. Dd loves banisters, reading the books etc

When it takes hold is probably have to forfeit all that as I then take her hand.

I've got a zoflora spray made up. I'm doing all the door handles and taps, then starting on the gadgets- screens, remotes etc. Then I'll start again. Hopefully by the time it gets loose in my area, we'll be in good habits.

hand hygiene does still make a big difference

I didn't deny that fact, I am pointing out that if the OP is so concerned about light switches and mobile phones being disinfected then they should consider it is primarily an air born virus, a hazmat suit would make sure she is safe from touching other peoples phones and door handles as they come with gloves.

This type of hysteria comical. If it was being transferred via door knobs it would be even more of a pandemic thats before we mention mobile phone sharing..

Touching things is not the problem - you won't catch a virus by touching it.

My phone has a case and screen cover and I wipe it quite regularly with anti bac spray on a kitchen towel. I dont use the lift at work because it so fucking unreliable and I dont want to be stuck in it. I only share a work phone with 2 others. However I take public transport and theres some folks on there that dont seem to have read any of the guidelines so I guess theres a high chance of getting it but I'm not panicking just yet.

You will spread it by touching, though.

And it's hard to avoid touching eyes nose and mouth.

It’s the touching and touching our eyes, nose etc, which people do a lot without thinking.

Toilet doors in buildings should open out the way so that you don't need to use the handle to exit. It's fine using it to enter. makes much more sense.

My hands are getting very very dry with all the hand washing. What should I do? Have Neutrogena hand cream but it isn’t cutting it now.

I was in Costco tonight, they were spraying and wiping down the handles of everyone's trollies as they entered the store.

It is an air born virus first and foremost, this thread is just another example of how it doesn't read the daily mail yet riles itself up on facebook style threads.

Just wash your hands, there is no talk about being worried about fucking mobile phones, door handles or sodding light switches.

This forum used to have some modicum of intellect and critical thinking.

OTT springflorals.

Wash hands, good advice, might make more people do that. But realistically people need to build up immunity/resistance too. The vulnerable groups should do what you say, if they can.

Other than that we are totally fkd. really because many think they are invincible and are far too busy to do all that.

@Justanotherlurker this disagrees. It says 2hours to 9days.

I did a food hygiene course and they said mobile phones were very germy and a source of contamination if you touched them when prepping food. (Without washing hands afterwards)

These droplets can come into direct contact with other people or can infect those who pick them up by touching infected surfaces and then their face.

Report
OhMargo · 03/03/2020 21:36

Just become a prepper and have no contact with anything apart from your stash. You'll be fine then.

Honestly, the hysteria and worry that some posts here are proposing is not helping.

Just be sensible.

No one but me ever touches my mobile phone. Confused
Who are you people sharing your phone constantly with rest of world?

@Justanotherlurker I'm not being hysterical or trying to cause unnecessary panic for what it's worth; nor do I intend to don a hazmat suit. Envy

I have 3 children with complex health conditions, 1 specifically highly at risk because of a muscle disorder which affects respiratory function.

I can't bubble wrap us all for the duration of however long it takes to ride out the worst so I'm being as pragmatic as I can be in trying to instill good hygiene practices with my children & upping the hand-washing, cleaning down of services but even with doing this & the media coverage giving advice on precautions, I know not everyone will do the same.

Do we all get every cold? Every flu?

Thats a very good point!

I can only assume its becase we have traces of previous infections left over from before.

Anyone know more?..

I did an aromatherapy course a long time ago and I seen to remember that tea tree oil is a natural anti-viral. If you have concerns it might be worth making up a small spray bottle of tea tree and water and carrying that with you.

But as other people have said it is also airborne so if you don’t catch it via touching droplets you are still at risk.
