AIBU to refuse work meeting (coronavirus related)

At work I am responsible for a large team. There is another manager who has similar responsibility for his team and our work often overlaps so we meet/converse regularly.

Before going on leave at the end of last week the other manager has emailed me asking me for a catch up meeting when he returns from leave in 10 days time.

He is going to North Italy on holiday and although not going to one of the towns that has been mentioned I am not happy to meet with him straight after he returns from Italy without any incubation period.

FWIW, DP has suppressed immune system following spleen removal and kidney transplant so I am always a little paranoid about germs and bugs.

What would you do?

As pointed out above, you are wrong

I know and sorry ! Checked FCO today as also due to fly through , what you
Read online is so variable

So I stand corrected

Still think OP should do a video con

Based on the official advice you are being over cautious but as others have said in your circumstances I think it's understandable.

FelicityFebruary · 03/03/2020 13:43

Also our government is issuing advice to balance caution with not being restrictive.

Some Businesses themselves are using more stringent rules such as stay away for 14 days if you have been to northern Italy full stop. Other countries are being more cautious.

So no you are FAR from unreasonable OP.

Your company should have a policy in place. I'm not in the UK but we're not allowed to travel anywhere right now, and you've been to Italy you have to quarantine yourself for 2 weeks and WFH

Came in the hope of finding the opinions of some other under-informed managers having to decide on matters they know absolutely nothing about ...

... and the I learned that Teams has a background blur functionality built in!

Don't want to derail, but: hallelujah!

Aridane · 04/03/2020 03:37

Yes, the blur functionality is amazing!

Aridane · 04/03/2020 03:38

And if you put the laptop quite far away, it’s really quite flattering!

Aridane · 04/03/2020 03:39

P plus it’s quite entertaining learning back slightly to see if you can trigger the blur background on yourself

Brefugee · 04/03/2020 07:18

I have a Teams meeting in about an hour - am so trying the Blur function (hmm. why did that capitalise? Is there an Oasis function?)

PP mentioned they'd banned meetings? (not related to virus) seems drastic.
We have adopted a scheme where there are 8 or 9 meeting criteria and if a meeting isn't hitting 4 of them, any of the participants can call it to a stop or get it back on track.

I like email for evidence chain, but nothing beats a f2f to see what people REALLY think of something.
