Is that correct and if so, why?

If it‘a not true, is it just because it’s very early days?

I was looking at the stats someone posted about how quickly it was increasing in Italy and it doesn’t seem to be following the same pattern here?

Not yet.

BusterMove · 02/03/2020 19:39

I would expect it to in the next week or so. People take a few days to show symptoms.
If it doesn't, that's very good news.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/03/2020 19:44

I thought it had jumped 56% in a werk

Lordfrontpaw · 02/03/2020 19:46

I suspect that the places that it has kept up were because there was, say a tour or pilgrimage that descended on a population and there were several people infected and passing it along.

Oblomov20 · 02/03/2020 19:53

So Justine is currently saying on the channel 4 news!

ChipotleBlessing · 02/03/2020 21:59

There are loads of countries where it is increasing at a similar rate or slower to the UK. So far we’ve been lucky mostly, though also good at isolating people and contact tracing. A few other countries have just been unlucky.

MC50 · 02/03/2020 23:14

I would say it was still early days for the UK, but they risk catching up quickly once the illness takes hold. Please don’t underestimate this ladies (and gents if there are any). I live in Northern Italy. Yesterday in the town where I live there were 17 people infected - This was a shock because I thought there were only 2, one of whom transferred from another city - This morning there were 61!!! Wash your hands often - as you see surgeons do in the films - I wear surgical grade gloves if I go out so I don’t have to touch anything and then ditch the gloves. I highly recommend you watch the videos made by Dr. John Campbell on YouTube as they are very informative. In the region of Lombardy and the province of Piacenza the following have been suspended: Gym activities, sports centres, swimming pools, swimming centres, wellness centres, Spas and Health Resorts (with the exception of treatment falling under essential assistance levels, Cultural centres, Social centres and Recreational centres.

middleager · 02/03/2020 23:14

Maybe we are not getting the full picture.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/03/2020 23:21

What picture do you think they are hiding middle?

MC50 · 02/03/2020 23:23

The figures for the whole of Italy today were 2,036 infected, 52 deaths and 149 recovered. Just over A WEEK ago there were 17 infected. Draw your own conclusions. I repeat DO NOT underestimate it and watch Dr. Campbell’s videos to understand the situation better.

We're a few days behind countries like France and Germany. What we saw in France, Germany and Spain was that there was a relatively slow increase up to 30 or 40, then a massive jump to 100 or more. Germany went from just under 50 cases to 150 in about four days. France went from 38 to 100 in two days. I would not be at all surprised if we reached 100 cases by the end of this week or early next week.

I don't know Raf
I don't trust media or Govt.

Just been watching Newsnight. It's going to explode. Soon there will be thousands and more ...

They were suggesting that the report tomorrow from the meeting today will be shocking to read.

I always thought Newsnight was quite balanced and not really sensationalist - so this has really worried me.

Bunnyfuller · 02/03/2020 23:49

Remember, we were about 2w behind some other European countries.

If it’s going to be massive I’m guessing containment has been too little too late.

Echobelly · 03/03/2020 06:59

Yes, we're just a bit behind, sorry! Remember 36 cases quickly become 72, then 144 then 288, then lots lots more.

BuckingFrolics · 03/03/2020 07:05

Because we've taken back control, obv.

Skyejuly · 03/03/2020 07:08

We are a bit behind. We will hit those figures very soon.

picklemewalnuts · 03/03/2020 07:08

I was wondering yesterday about spas. I regularly go to the pool sauna and steam rooms, but can't imagine that's a good idea now.

ElderAve · 03/03/2020 07:13

We don't seem to be taking things as seriously as other countries. Even countries very close to home are starting to cancel events now. So, either they're all panicking over nothing, or once it does get a grip it will spread more quickly here.

MrsStrangerThing · 03/03/2020 07:15

We will just have to wait and see. We don't know yet what way the numbers will escalate. I have been assuming it will be a bit like swine flu, in that most of us will get it eventually - or at least be exposed to it. But now I am not so sure as it seems to be spreading a bit slower than flu. Only time will tell really.

ElderAve · 03/03/2020 07:19

Did most of us get Swine flu?

BrokenBrit · 03/03/2020 07:22

Also they aren’t testing people in many areas of the U.K. , unless they have come from the areas on their list.
Not even people who have been a few miles away from the areas that are on their list, and have the symptoms Hmm.

ElderAve · 03/03/2020 07:26

A friend who has returned from Northern Italy (not cat1) has a son with symptoms, probably a cold but 111 have told him to self isolate and they will be in touch re testing.

In line with current guidelines, friend is still at work in a school, as she is symptom free. Statistically it's unlikely he has it, but NHS is concerned enough to want him tested. It he does have it ....

fedup21 · 03/03/2020 07:30

How do I attach a picture now-the paper clip has vanished!?
