Caught COVID-19? - Now what?

There's some amazing threads going regarding general prepping, plans, updates (Prepping for a pandemic threads in particular), my sincere thanks to those keeping us updated! Flowers

As part of a family with several "high-risk" categories Sad, I really wanted to start condensing information together in one place about what to do if/when you actually catch it - ie. preventative measures have failed, and providing you are well enough to be managed at home.

The Basics
Vitamin C & Vitamin D (immune support)
Paracetamol/ibuprofen - some finer details to consider about whether it might be better to allow fever to take its course.
Throat lozenges/difflam spray
Oral rehydration fluid/syringe
Olbas oil and/or Vicks vapour rub
Hot water bottle to keep on chest (aids vapourisation and increases blood flow to lungs).

Other things I'm currently looking into that may or may not be helpful
Oil diffusers & tea tree/eucalyptus (basically like olbas oil for symptom relief but possibly some anti-viral action also?)
Elderberry syrup products (ie. Sambucol) - strong antiviral action against influenzae viruses at least
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11399518

I'd love to hear about anyone else's ideas or studies they've found - even if it's just "may be helpful" stuff.
I think I've maxed out on what I can do to minimise our chances of getting ill. Now I really want to prepare a plan about what to do/try if we catch it anyway.

Personally, I'm more in the realm of trying to ever prevent it getting to the stage where it might trigger a cytokine storm (high-level or overwhelming infection).

I'm banking on increasing immune support to try and fight it off in the early stages. Later stages are (I think) too late to do much about, other than hope for a fortuitous roll of the dice.

So do you think Sambucol might be helpful in the early stages ? Is the storm only a problem as the disease becomes more entrenched ? I don’t know much about cytokines ( and I have a lot of Sambucol..)

Dare I say make sure your will is up to date. This is something we should all have and if CV gives you a nudge then that's a good thing that has come out of this.

I’ve been wondering if echinacea would be a good idea. After all, it’s proven to be effective against the common cold, which is a type of Coronavirus.

A very good idea imo. I started to take it again yesterday after a break. I love Vogel echinacea drops, they are quite aromatic and easy to take in water. I'm careful to only take it as a 'course' for a maximum of 5-6 weeks not continuously, as it boosts white blood cell count, which effectively kickstarts the body's own immunity.

I've posted this over in the preppers thread too. It's a woman's list of tips of how she quarantined her daughter's when they were I'll with swine flu.

Ibuprofen = NO NO NO
It is dangerous with Covid19.
Nothing like Advil, Voltarol, Ibuprofen, etc

check the full list www.drugs.com/ingredient/ibuprofen.html
Well I hope it is a full list. Do your own research and talk to your GP in any doubt.

If you stand on your head & howl very loudly at the mooon... you'll feel much better when you stand up straight again. Prove me wrong. Total cure for the bad covid symptoms.

Elllicam · 31/03/2020 06:55

I’m pretty sure I’ve just had it and my most helpful things were my humidifier and my Sa02 probe. The humidifier helped me breathe and the Sa02 reassured me when I was breathless that I was getting enough oxygen.

WoollySheep462 · 31/03/2020 07:30

Neilmed nasal spray.
Echinacea drops.
Honey.
Pulse oximiter to check 02 levels.
Air purifier (not ion one, just a filter).
Regular hoovering for dust.
More house plants = more oxygen in the air.

I have chest issues already so I have been on it for years!

FascinatingCarrot · 31/03/2020 07:38

Just got myself a pulse oxomiter, thanks!
If it does happen I'm sure it would help to keep the breathing focused at least.
I already have a good diffuser and a couple of nurse friends have recommended rosemary oil.

The second vitamin D3 blood serum study in the world has been published yesterday.
It was a study of 780 Indonesian covid patients.

These are the conclusions of the study:
• Majority of the COVID-19 cases with insufficient and deficient Vitamin D status died.
• The odds of death was higher in older and male cases with pre-existing condition and below normal Vitamin D levels.
• When controlling for age, sex, and comorbidity, Vitamin D status is strongly associated with COVID-19 mortality.

When compared to cases with normal Vitamin D status, death was approximately 10.12 times more likely for Vitamin D deficient cases (OR=10.12; p
