Conflict in the Middle East

Good piece by the BBC about the Jewish community and their fears

As we move on from the Gaza co flint it appears there is a lot of work to be done in order to make our Jewish community safe and the scale of the fear and disruption to their lives has sometimes been eclipsed by cries of '.....but Gaza'. Maybe change at the BBC is allowing such pieces to be written (about time) so people can see the result of the frenzy of anti semitism that has occurred under our watch.

Why British Jews are experiencing their biggest change in 60 years

There have been shifts in how secure many British Jews feel - and how connected they feel to the rest of the community.

An interesting article @mids2019 and good that the BBC have written an article like this explaining the how it feels to be Jewish in Britain today.

The CITME board is too antisemitic for many Jews to post or stay long. They are literally scared away by the huge number of posts that only show empathy in one direction. I’ve read some testimonies on other threads from Jewish people living in the UK and about how they feel they have to hide their Jewishness now. This is not right and it’s not acceptable. I hope the tide is turning with more people being able to see that the right to spout racist slogans ( “free speech”) does not trump the right of decent people to live in peace without feeling unsafe or unwanted in the UK.

Thanks for posting that. Its gut wrenching for me to see what is on citme and I'm not Jewish. The incredible lack of empathy for Jewish people, the obsessive single minded hatred of Israel, the twisting of facts and logic and conplete unwillingness to face up to what is happening to Jewish people now in the UK and connect the dots to the attitude to Israel.

Its also incredibly tedious to go over the same ground over and over again. No wonder Jewish posters don't want to do it, just to be abused.

Recent article on the experience of Jewish schools.

Look at Nicole Lampert's substack which tracks a lot of current Jewish experience here.

All of this hatred and censoriousness didn't leap into being 'because Gaza'. Its the result of longstanding antisemitism that just needs a trigger to bubble up again.

Stab vests and kill drills: The children living in terror in British schools

While other schools have fire drills, hundreds of pupils who go to Jewish schools are trained in what to do if confronted by a gunman. Nicole Lampert talks to the parents who are becoming too terrified to send their children to school and asks how this...

There is also a lack of courage in facing it down. Bournemouth museum recently cancelled an exhibition about its own Jewish community for 'security concerns'. The answer is to increase security and refuse to be bullied. Stand up for the Jewish community. Be an ally.

Absolutely @SharonEllis

Shame on Bournemouth museum & other institutions complicit in the bullying & exclusion.

CAA’s new polling on British Jews is published in today’s Sunday Telegraph.

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2025/12/21/majority-of-jews-do-not-feel-safe-in-britain/

They tell of a Jewish community feeling betrayed by those we once trusted to protect us.

• A majority of British Jews (51%) feel that they do not have a long-term future in the UK. Less than a quarter (23%) do. The results are similar regarding the long-term future for Jews in Europe.

• Almost half (45%) of British Jews do not feel welcome in the UK; less than a third (32%) do.

• A clear majority of British Jews (61%) have considered leaving Britain in the past two years. A majority of them cite the surge in antisemitism since 7th October 2023 as the reason, but almost half also point to general prejudice against Jews in society and antisemitism in political parties.

• 59% of British Jews try not to show visible signs of their Jewishness due to concerns relating to antisemitism.

• 98% of British Jews believe that, since October 2023, the level of antisemitism has increased compared to before. Interestingly, in a recent poll of the British public that we commissioned from YouGov, 51% of the British public said that they believed that antisemitism has increased in the UK since October 2023.

• 96% of British Jews feel that Jewish people in Britain are less safe compared to before October 2023.

These are such upsetting stats. As CAA says:

We know from history that a society in which Jews are eyeing their suitcases is a society in deep trouble.

absolutely. I care deeply about Jewish people feeling (and being) safe, but I am also concerned out of self interest as the people making them unsafe also hate women and gays.

we have handed aspects of our community and security over to people who hate our values and way of life.

The whole thing is awful. Why should Jews feel not welcome in the UK? They shouldn't. All because of extremists using the war in Gaza as an excuse to spew their hatred and others joining in who definitely aren't useful idiots & definitely aren't racist (so they tell us).

I agree.

The country will be worse for it if Jewish people leave. It must be awful for them with the amount of anti semitism in this (and other) countries.

I think most people avoid the CITME threads now. Looking at AIBU and other threads the responses are quite different. There is finally growing concern at the damage the marches have done. Marching alongside hateful chanting is complicit and appalling.

This was all the more disgusting because Bournemouth, not only once had a thriving Jewish community, but it was also the chosen holiday spot for many Jewish families, mine amongst them.

Like many others I found the CITME board a complete and utter cesspit. I take my hat off to those brave enough to carry on posting there amidst the hatred spouted. I've only commented here now because it is good to see the OP and the link to the BBC article.

It is a cesspit of antisemitism. Lots of posts have to be deleted. I can see why so few people venture there.

Some look for anything at all anti Jewish/anti Israeli and post every minutiae. Lots of whataboutery where Hamas is concerned, deflection, minimisation of Hamas or 'ordinary' Palestine people who joined in with terrorist activity.

It feels like the Palestine Action lot (a proscribed terrorist organisation) who are on remand awaiting trial for various criminal actions (including smashing a police officer with a sledgehammer whilst she was laying on the floor breaking her spine) like cult like behaviour. Nothing else matters but Palestine and the 'cause'.

This is awful.

The UK has failed and continues to fail it's Jewish community.

Australia did too and look where that ended up. They are waking up to the antisemitism in their society (finally). When will the UK wake up too? Do we have to wait for another attack on Jewish people before we grow a backbone and deal with hate marchers/chanting/antisemitism properly?

Echobelly · 22/12/2025 14:34

As an Israel-critical Jew, I felt this was a good and balanced piece. It gives a good explanation of why Jews feel strongly about Israel (and that it's not because we think 'God gave it to us' or because we hate Muslims or Palestinians) and gives fair portrayals of different viewpoints without being sensationalist. Definitely one worth sharing with non Jewish friends.

sickofsixseven · 23/12/2025 19:59

Unfortunately I've seen articles like this being labeled as "hasbara" on other sites. They are saying that journalists and influencers are being paid to highlight rising levels of anti semitism to generate sympathy for jews and Israel. Absolutely ridiculous anti semitism and they dont seem to be able to see it.

Thank god this was foiled. Can you imagine?.
It would have been the worst ever attack..

Another sick terrorist. The brave people who watch these in our society. These vile scum need removal from society to protect the rest of us.

Worthless hate filled things that they are.

The people who don’t care about Jews - but care about women’s rights or LGB rights or Eco rights -
( Greta Thunberg I’m looking at you 😉) are useful idiots.
