Hamas have released the first group of hostages this morning. 7 have been handed to the Red Cross. Another group will be released later today.

I've just read an article on the BBC website about Bipin Joshi. A tribute from the friend whose life he saved by picking up a grenade thrown by Hamas and throwing it out of the bunker they were hiding in.
His family never lost hope that he was still alive - he'd gone to Israel to save money for his family. Brave young man - his family are in my thoughts.

Yes and no. They definitely made it a huge global diplomatic and propaganda issue for the last 2 years, and we don't yet know what the long term significance of that is going to be.

But they've also been militarily and diplomatically isolated. The Iranians can do much less for them now than they could 2 years ago, and the Qataris have been frightened into submission at least for now. It's incredibly telling that the ceasefire only came once they were being told by other Arab regimes and Turkey that, essentially, you've lost this round.

I agree that they are more isolated now than they were before 7/10.

However, I still think they have succeeded in dragging the world into their war.

The split we see on MN between pro Palestinians or supporters of Israel (as if you have to choose a side) is echoed in wider society.

It’s so heartbreaking. I read he had only arrived in Israel not long before the attack.

Easier said than done when they only wear ‘uniforms’ on special occasions.

Uniforms are neat neat and tidy and kept out of sight until ceasefire. They then come out and are worn to slaughter their own people who dont follow Hamas to cheers and applause of their followers. Cowards hiding behind children. Rapists, kidnappers, murderers they are, but not a dignified group capable of running a decent society, as long as Palestinians have them in charge they will not flourish. No wonder the surrounding Arab nations dont offer assistance, they know what Hamas and their followers are.

No one has Gazan civilians best interests at heart.

Israel has Israels interests first.
Hamas, Hamas' interests and not their own people.
China has Chinas interests at heart.
And Trump most certainly has his own interests in sight.

The endless tragedy of Palestinian civilians is that literally no one is looking out for them first.
