More words, strong words but just words none the less.

We condemn the drip feeding of aid and the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, seeking to meet their most basic needs of water and food. It is horrifying that over 800 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid.

What gets me is the absolutely obnoxious response from Israel and the US

Israel say it is is disconnected from reality and the US said it was disgusting

Palestinians carry bags of flour from a UN aid convoy that crossed into northern Gaza on 20 July 2025

Gaza: UK and 27 other nations condemn Israel over civilian suffering - BBC News

Israel rejects a joint statement which says the suffering of civilians has "reached new depths".

I think it's a case of not being blinded by Hamas propaganda and trying to be objective @mids2019
This thread is about the UK and 27 other countries calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and calling out the current humanitarian crisis, stop trying to pretend we're all being blinded by Hamas it is a complete unfounded accusation that's sole purpose is to de-legitimise anyone that is critical of the Israeli government actions in Gaza. Stop taking people and nation states for fools.

Posters can disagree all they like and question the evidence that's staring them in the face but the fact is 27 countries are in agreement that a ceasefire needs to happen. Posters on here are not outliers in what they're highlighting and looking for an end to.

Most of us think there should be a ceasefire too.

Twiglets1 · 22/07/2025 15:08

Seriously @ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend you want examples of Hamas sick propaganda?

I will not be providing examples of that - there are more than enough on the internet already.

Dontthink · 22/07/2025 15:09

I agree. Israel withdraw from Gaza and then start negotiating about the remaining hostages.
Israel know Hamas are brutal, inhumane, have very little to lose and will kill any hostages the moment they see the IDF coming. Israel should stop and negotiate. To date it's been the most successful way to get hostages back. Unfortunately, the way Israel is currently going about its campaign, they are unlikely to get back anything other than cadavers.

@ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend
27 countries calling for a ceasefire is just that. They are simply words that cost little more than the breath it takes to say them. Pretty easy.
What it needs is actions with these countries actually doing something, such as ceasing trade, freezing assets, rescinding El Al landing slots, and in the UK's case, halting RAF flights.
Today, Lammy was ever so indignant about Israel's actions, but will the UK government back up his words with deeds ? Will they hell.

I'd rather see them freezing hamas assets https://english.elpais.com/international/2024-01-09/hamas-ltd-the-financial-muscle-of-the-palestinian-islamist-militia.html
and deporting hamas operatives.

On a point of order, Madam Deputy Speaker. I provided advance notice of it to Mr Speaker earlier.

A few days ago, The Sunday Times reported on its front page that a “Hamas fugitive” who

“‘ran the group’s terrorist operations in the West Bank’”

lives here in London. Muhammad Qassem Sawalha is designated by Israel as a senior Hamas operative in Europe and accused of fleeing the country with fake documents. He is now believed to hold UK citizenship. Zaher Birawi lives in Barnet not far from Sawalha. He was designated by Israel in 2013 as a senior Hamas operative in Europe. He is listed as a trustee of a UK registered charity, Education Aid for Palestinians. A publicly available video shows him hosting a 2019 event in London titled “Understanding Hamas”.

Two weeks ago, Hamas launched the deadliest terror attack the world has seen since 9/11. This House rightly voted to proscribe Hamas in its entirety in November 2021. It is therefore a serious national security risk for Hamas operatives to be living here in London, especially where at least one appears to have done so through the use of fake documents in obtaining British citizenship.

Madam Deputy Speaker, can you advise me on how I might raise this with the Government as a matter of great urgency and ask if you have had any indication of a Minister seeking to come to the House to provide an urgent update on this matter?

As for RAF co-operation with Israel, I think we would be shooting ourselves in the foot if we cut ties.

There was also some discussion of Iranian airlines not flying into the UK.

Hamas Ltd: The financial muscle of the Palestinian Islamist militia

The U.S. is pressuring countries like Turkey to cut off the funds that feed the organization, which until it took power in Gaza was fueled by money from Iran and private donations

Yes, yes we are because, we're human and as a result of that we can display real emotion when we witness our fellow humans suffering in this way. I'd be pretty appalled at myself if I didn't tbh.

I'm appalled - for a lot of reasons. There will be a time when all this starts to unravel. It will take something very similar to 7/10 but it won't be in the ME. That massacre hit its target. Job done. The fallout was planned.

I think it's a case of not being blinded by Hamas propaganda and trying to be objective. We have to remember most of the statistics and news feed from Gaza is from Hamas and therefore it is prudent to question the validity without question.

No one argues this isn't a grim conflict as all conflicts are but to completely take the point of view of one of the combatants doesn't seem that wise.

If you and others applied that scepticism to the IDF, fair enough, there is enough evidence out there to prove they are not very truthful.

Personally i listen to a broad range of views, opinions, plus foreign correspondents with far more experience of propaganda from both sides.

At the beginning of this conflict i was fully behind Israel/IDF and their invasion of Gaza but the killing and destruction plus the statements from leading Israeli Govt ministers have persuaded me that the objective isn't the removal of Hamas but the removal of the Palestinians... by whatever means.

FriggingInsomnia · 22/07/2025 16:10

ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend · 22/07/2025 14:50

but look at how Hamas are weaponizing the horrors of war for their own sick propaganda.
Have you examples of this sick propaganda?

I also agree with your suggestion @FriggingInsomnia that maybe Israel should have turned the WiFi off in Gaza
So basically cut them off completely. No independent press allowed in, no other means of communication to highlight what's happening to them, to communicate with each other to communicate with friends and families overseas. I don't think you understand the full ramifications of what you are suggesting here.

That would have been tough shit basically wouldn’t it.

I don’t think there’s anything in International Law saying the victim in a war has to facilitate the aggressor’s communications and propaganda machine facilitating ITSELF being condemned and demonised on the world stage!

That kind of proves the point that the IDF make, that they are not at war with civilians in Gaza.

They could have completely blacked out Gaza. They didn’t, allowing all the fake videos, blood libels and lies to flood the internet.

No other army would have done that and put themselves at such a disadvantage.

Wow, they really are the most moral army in the world.

Why do you think Israel want Palestinians gone? I know the obvious answer will be about more land. Israel issued work permits to Gazans - they were helping Palestinians improve their lives and live within stability. They offered them land for peace. Hamas don't want that. They don't want a two-state solution. There will never be peace while Palestine is led by terrorists.

Egypt could I believe open it's crossing and allow an exodus to a large field camp with food and healthcare.

Despite the hunger is Gaza Egypt would I doubt consider this move and there must be reasons why.

They won't though because they've got enough. Those aren't my words. Plus, there's all the experience in other Arab counties.

Just on the OP two of Israels biggest cheerleaders in the EU are criticising the 900 people dead while trying to get aid.
Combined with yesterday's letter it is a very very small start.

So civilians aren’t supposed to be targeted in war. Having a mobile phone in Gaza is essential from knowing where to access water, getting aid or even getting evacuation warnings. Also so important to keep linked in family members now that 90% of the population are homeless and most have moved multiple times.

So cutting off communications, in this case, would be considered collective punishment and against international law. It has been cut, on and off and as a result many people have eSIMs which have been distributed by charities.

Starving people walking 8km to get limited food in a 10 minute window under frequent fire...when there were UN, World Kitchen, Community Kitchens located amongst the people. No sanitary supplies or clean water, no medicines. Imagine no inhalers, no insulin, no dialysis, no cardiac medicines, no BP meds...nothing. This is a genocide before our eyes. Baby food denied, tube feeding for people in hospital denied...there is no excuse. This is genocide as part of a vile land grab. Starvation siege.

Have you not heard what leading Govt ministers in Israel have said? would be helpful if you did....
Others have said very similar.

An Israeli government minister has vowed that “Gaza will be entirely destroyed” as a result of an Israeli military victory, and that its Palestinian population will “leave in great numbers to third countries”, raising fears of ethnic cleansing in the occupied territory
The declaration on Tuesday by the finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, came a day after Israel’s security cabinet approved a plan for Operation Gideons Chariots, a ground offensive in Gaza. May 2025.

Listening to radio news report this evening, they've nothing not even the means to mend broken bones which will undoubtedly lead to physical disabilities. Targeting children in this way and creating conditions in which they are the most negatively impacted is genocide.

Alexandra2001 · 23/07/2025 08:54

Why the sudden raft of questions?

You have stood squarely behind the IDF/Israeli govt, supported them 100% and condemned anyone who opposes their actions as Hamas supporters.... as naïve and swallowing Hamas propaganda.

UK has supported the Israeli Govt for many years now, trade, weapons, diplomatically, needs to stop, it now appears that as the 'court judgement looms, countries are now frantically back pedalling with "oh look we condemned them..."
