Concerns the IDF use of a 230kg bomb a potential war crime

Alarming article that the IDF used a 230kg bomb to target a busy cafe. They have not said which high ranking member of Hamas was killed.

“Medical and other officials said between 24 and 36 Palestinians were killed in the attack on the cafe and dozens more were injured. The dead included a well-known film-maker and an artist, a 35-year-old housewife and a four-year-old child. Among the injured were a 14-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.”

We know the IDF can be precise:

”Israel has a wide range of munitions and has frequently used much smaller weapons for precision strikes against individuals in Gaza, Lebanon and in its recent air offensive in Iran.”

Experts raise concerns about disproportionate use of force- which we have repeatedly spoken about on this board:

”Marc Schack, an associate professor of international law at the University of Copenhagen, said: “It is almost impossible to see how this use of that kind of munition can be justified. If you are talking about 20, 30, 40 or more civilian casualties, usually that would have to be a target of very great importance … For coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, the accepted number for a very high-level target was less than 30 civilians getting killed, and only then in exceptional circumstances.”

There is a special place in hell for these people who dropped this bomb and all the others. I really hope they never know a moments peace.

@ssd
I am not sure they care - as there’s been repeated concerns about disproportionate use of force by the IDF, but nothing changes.

I was thinking - we don’t know the names of the innocent people who died, their stories, their hopes and aspirations.

They are just numbers, and it seems so unfair that their deaths are not even equally honoured like other deaths - as they too were unjustly murdered.

Imagine how many obituaries would need to be written to commemorate the murdered Palestinians.

They do it because they can. It’s literally been approved by Trump. Anyone who tries to say anything is gaslit. The countries that are objecting are being silenced.

I go back to my original question back in October 2023, when is enough enough? This has never been about getting rid of Hamas this is about getting rid of the Palestinian people and the proof is what is happening in the West Bank and other areas.

I know. And i agree its just wishful thinking on my part, they really wont care.
Im sure on ch4 news last night there was a report about some of the young people who died in the cafe, they were young, beautiful and successful. Just out meeting friends, trying to get some normality in their lives, even for an hour or 2. And they were murdered by Israel, like so many countless others in Gaza.
Beyond horrific.

@TakeMe2Insanity

This alleged genocide happened under Biden’s watch, although he did eventually stop selling dumb bombs to Israel.

It’s interesting that the pro-Palestinian views of the Mamdani, who won the Democratic nomination for New York Mayor, did not appear to hold him back. Not saying that why he won the nomination, but his views about the ME eg support for BDS, didn’t stop him from winning the election. It seems it longer inappropriate to hold these views.

I followed that election with interest @Stripes56 . The smear campaign was shocking . Did you see the interview where he was grilled for being anti Israel because when asked where his first foreign trip would be he said he would prefer to stay at home and work for New Yorkers.
The blatant attacks he faced were racism at its finest.

Stripes56 · 02/07/2025 23:20

@Martymcfly24
A lot of money was spent by very wealthy billionaires to keep Mamdani from winning the nomination. I wish him success in the actual election.

He said that if Netanyahu stepped foot in New York he would arrest him due to ICC arrest warrant - although not sure if he legally could.

I saw some commentary from Americans that described the smear campaign against him as being very, very similar to the one against Jeremy Corbyn, except in Mamdani's case, people had wised up and identified it for what it was. Hence he got the nomination.
