US confirms plan for private firms to deliver Gaza aid despite UN alarm

The US has confirmed that a new system for providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza through private companies is being prepared, as Israel's blockade continues for a third month.

US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said "distribution centres" protected by security contractors would provide food and other supplies to over a million people initially, as part of an effort to prevent Hamas stealing aid.

He denied Israel would take part in aid delivery or distribution, but said its forces would secure the centres' perimeters.

It comes as details emerged about the controversial plan, which UN agencies have reiterated they will not co-operate with because it appears to "weaponize" aid.

GHF also made a statement on Facebook:

Aid centers run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a US and Israel-backed agency, will temporarily close Wednesday for renovation, it said.

“June 4, distribution centers will be closed for renovation, reorganization and efficiency improvement work,” GHF wrote on Facebook.

Aid distribution will resume Thursday, it added.

The Israeli army confirmed the temporary closure.

“It is prohibited tomorrow (Wednesday) to travel on roads leading to the distribution centers, which are considered combat zones,” Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee posted on social media.

I'm sure there's now going to be an outcry about the aid distribution centres being closed for a day ...despite people on here hating them and believing civilians get shot at them..

People are getting shot. You’ve got zero empathy for them! We aren’t talking Hamas soldiers. Watch the video of a small child devastated that his mother was shot.

Twiglets1 · 04/06/2025 07:57

ssd · 04/06/2025 07:45

Could they not have given people more warning though??

It's because the number of Gazans using the centres were apparently larger than they expected (given that Hamas were telling Gazans not to use them) so closing for a day will "give time for the US- and Israeli-backed organization to carry out logistical work needed to accommodate larger crowds".

A GHF spokesperson also said, The extra day will also give the IDF time to prepare safer access routes to distribution sites before operations resume on Thursday... after a third consecutive day saw a mass-casualty incident among Palestinians near the sites.

The new aid system at full capacity was only feeding 13% of the population.

Are IDF defenders on here going to admit now that the whole thing is a fucking shambles. It is inefficient, dangerous, doesn't cover the needs of the people and doesn't even stop Hamas from receiving aid.

I know people have been shot. But it has now been established that (contrary to initial reports coming out of Gaza) they aren't getting shot at the aid distribution centres but about a kilometre away, outside the perimeter.

There is also controversy about who is doing the killing - the IDF or Hamas and me discussing the where and the who doesn't make me lack empathy anymore than anyone else discussing them.

There isn’t any doubt about who did the killing yesterday. And they’re being killed on the way to the shit show that is the aid distribution centres. And today the IDF will have another excuse for why they’ve killed Palestines ‘we told them not to come today’.

Whatsinanamehey · 04/06/2025 08:07

Did you just ignore the update from the times of Israel where a senior IDF chief admitted they shot at Palestinians who lost their route whilst finding their way to the aid centre?

Did you also miss the update that the video the IDF released on Monday saying it was Hamas shooting outside the aid centre in Rafah was geo located by Sky and BBC as located near Khan younis and nowhere near Rafah. Lies lies lies.

It's a new aid system & more centres are being built in different areas of Gaza so the system is definitely not at full capacity yet - it only opened days ago.

But I will definitely admit the start has been shambolic.

Hamas soldiers have not been able to steal any food from the centres as far as I'm aware so that has to be a positive thing.

Palestinians mistakenly approached soldiers whilst on their way to the aid site and the IDF responded by shooting like crazy killing many of them. And don't start with they were threatening as we know the IDF's definition of threatening includes people waving white flags.

Wrong. The sky news analysis said they have examined how people are getting food and there's absolutely no way to stop Hamas from getting food contrary to Israeli claims.

Interesting analysis on sky today about how the new system doesn't prevent Hamas from getting aid if that is really the purpose.

The Israeli government says the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation is supposed to prevent aid from going to Hamas. That's almost certainly not being achieved.
The operation is in chaos
The pictures of massive crowds grabbing food boxes in a frenzied manner aren't just an indication of the desperation, but would also appear to undermine Israel's claims the aid isn't going to Hamas.
Amid the chaos and thousands of people (mostly men) scrabbling for aid, how could they possibly know who is getting it?

I think it was discussed yesterday that the the IDF shot Palestinians who had approached troops after straying off a pre-approved path for reaching a Rafah distribution site.

There was a lot of discussion about whether or not it was understandable that the IDF soldiers would feel jittery about people walking towards them, away from the pre-approved safe path and who did not stop walking towards them after they fired warning shots.

This is another reason the distribution units are closed today, according to the Times of Israel:

To support civilian safety outside distribution sites, the spokesperson said GHF has asked the IDF to introduce measures that guide foot traffic in a way that minimizes confusion or escalation risks near the IDF-operated perimeter around the sites; develop clearer IDF-issued guidelines to help Palestinians safely reach the distribution sites; and boost IDF training and refine internal procedures to ensure the safety of Palestinians.

There wasn’t a lot of discussion. You justified the killings by saying the IDF must’ve been jittery. Nobody else agrees.

It's very true that the system seems chaotic at the moment and no one seems to be doing checks currently regarding who is getting the aid.

However, it's obvious that Hamas aren't stealing it on a large scale. Individual Hamas soldiers may be taking single boxes of aid but then again, they probably need it for their own families seeing as apparently Hamas has been struggling to pay their soldiers since the aid blockade in March.

Hamas soldiers pretending to be civilians and taking individual boxes of aid away at a time is not the same thing as the widespread looting of whole lorries or warehouses of aid they were accused of under the old system.

OP posts:
Whatsinanamehey · 04/06/2025 08:54

Under the old system they were accused of taking 10% of the aid from the start of the war till now according to Israeli officials. They never provided any proof for these allegations which the UN have denied.

If they are taking aid for their families then it's probably still around 3/4% of the aid. There's also no way of knowing how many is being used for other use. If Hamas were stealing entire lorry fulls of aid where is the proof? Why won't the IDF release proof? Real proof not videos claiming to be from one place and caught lying as they weren't from there at all.

I'm sure you and other posters were discussing the video the IDF released as proof, anything to say now that its been proven they lied about it? AGAIN

Why do they keep lying even though they keep getting caught out!

It was discussed that the IDF claimed that they shot warning shots after Palestinians approached them in a THREATENING manner. They have now said actually these were just hordes of Palestinians who were lost and approached troops mistakenly whilst trying to locate the aid hub, nothing about them being threatening. Doctors have said women and children were amongst those shot dead and injured. But they were killed by the IDF regardless. Their last line of defence now that its all coming out is ok fine maybe there were some casualties but not as many as has been claimed despite foreign doctors on the ground confirming how many bodies they recieved in the aftermath with gunshot wounds at the hospital.

Whatsinanamehey · 04/06/2025 09:01

boost IDF training and refine internal procedures to ensure the safety of Palestinians.

Read between the lines. This basically says we fucked up and killed too many people and now getting real heat for it including accusations of war crimes so we going to quickly brief the soldiers to stop acting like fucking psychos and shoot at anyone they see walking in their direction, considering the aid hubs are in military zones there's a very high chance civilians will be walking towards them.

I'm assuming its going to be quiet on here for awhile now that the IDF lies and brutality has been exposed once again.
