Is anyone else interested in a thread discussing Syria?

I've been concerned about what I'm reading - BBC is just reporting "clashes with Assad loyalists", but I'm seeing claims on SM about attacks on minority civilians and Turkey now in northern Syria. I'm strugging to verify the information though so if anyone has any more information than that I'd be interested to see it.

I'm unfortunately not too surprised at this - the void left by unpleasant strongmen always seems to create chaos, and I thought the celebrations about Syria being "free" seemed premature. I had hoped I was wrong.

@BelleHathor you're likely right about those. I'm not sure if U.K. is still freezing Syrian claims

The only thing I can find is from January when it got frozen

there were talks about removing them as a proscribed terrorist group… I hope they’ve not

Whose going to march for the Alawites slaughtered by the islamists, nobody will even mention the slaughter of the Christians

No one. Its not about innocent people being killed, otherwise they'd march for Syria and Yeman and Sudan. No Jews involved though. I mean the number slaughtered is huge but Israel not involved only Muslims killing Christians, Druze, Alawites so nothing to see here.

It’s just mind blowing to me how little coverage the murder of 745 civilians in Syria gets compared to Gaza.

Isn't it. Very little interest. 🤔

tiredoflondonbutnotlife · 09/03/2025 23:53

I noticed that too @RedHot2025. No Jews, no news.

Clearly nobody cares about Arab Christians being slaughtered.

It’s absolutely horrific. the Congo massacre too 💔 I am seeing it all over my x timeline, which is mainly Israel activists/ Zionists.
However our numbers are too small, and apart from a very few, rarely have enough followers to make much of a dent in the silence. People care, I promise 🫂

Me too. Absolutely horrifying.
I find it really disturbing the lack of attention the main stream media give to attacks on Christians.
It’s the most persecuted religion in the world at the moment and it’s hardly ever mentioned.

Thanks Ella. It’s good to hear that. I know good people of all religions would care but sadly the media is not giving the issue enough coverage ( we could speculate why but I think there are several reasons )

inamarina · 10/03/2025 09:31

It took one or two days for the mainstream media to pick up on the issue after footage of the atrocities being committed in Syria started flooding X.
It was almost a bit surreal how quiet the media was in the beginning.

That’s fairly normal to be honest. It takes time for western media to verify the footage. You might remember with Covid how the footage from China on social media was coming out and it took the media a while to catch up with what was actually happening.

Apparently there is massive amounts of disinformation on social media about Syria right now - much been driven by Iran and Russia in Syria itself which is stoking tensions there and far right movements in the west. In general the international community are hoping that Syria can stabilise itself.

ohdelay · 10/03/2025 11:54

I heard the disinformation line spouted by lots of outlets and pretty much quoting the new "government" word for word. "Unfortunately" for this narrative, the psychos filmed themselves smiling and killing lots of unarmed people then uploaded it all to Twitter and Facebook. They had bunches of civilians crawling through the streets past bodies, all the time laughing. They were pretty proud of themselves, taking selfies, lots of smiling and laughing while murdering. Very jarring.
Just think if they were a tiny bit less stupid/psychotic, the disinformation line could have worked.

I fully understand that they would want to verify the sources first before making official statements about numbers of people attacked/ killed.
What I did find strange was that there was no mention at all at first, not even in a manner of something like ‘reports are coming in (…) yet to be verified’.

Notaflippinclue · 10/03/2025 12:10

Islamist MO belittle, torture, rape slaughter then film it - we've seen it all before and people still seem to support them

No there was. They were very light on details and reporting “clashes”. The bulk of disinformation is coming from Russia actually not the new government. That’s not saying anything about the new government. But Russia has hugely sophisticated means to push disinformation - a well oiled tool for them.

What media outlets are reporting government led disinformation as fact?

ArtTheClown · 10/03/2025 12:54

@EllaDisenchanted I've seen some terribly distressing footage from the Congo, of children.

““This was not just an act of terror. It was a targeted massacre of Christians, and it will not stop here,” says Illia Djadi, Senior Analyst for Freedom of Religion or Belief in sub-Saharan Africa for Open Doors. “The ADF is part of a growing extremist network that wants to wipe out Christianity in the region. If nothing is done, more attacks will follow.”

70 Christians found beheaded in church in DRC

Christians in DRC have again been left reeling after a heinous act of violence that has left 70 believers dead. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in the country as they face escalating persecution.

Nothing much from the BBC on this as far as I can see ?

OpheliaWasntMad · 10/03/2025 13:07

I find this report quite odd in the way it puts the words “Christians” into inverted commas …?

Clearly nobody cares about Arab Christians being slaughtered.

They bang the drum for Palestine, shout free Palestine and anti Israel chanting but completely ignore other problems. Basically showing virtue signalling and band jumping rather than any real concern for innocent people and children regardless of where they are and what religion they follow. It feels like a trend they jump on.

Not surprising since the BBC cannot even use the word terrorists to describe Hamas.

This evil lot filmed their slaughter just like Hamas. Vile creatures. Still many won't even notice or march since not trendy enough and no Jews to blame

TinklySnail · 10/03/2025 14:21

It seems the Majority of conflicts are being initiated Islam extremists.
Why is no one protesting about the Congo genocide, which is looking remarkably similar to the Rwandan ones. No one speaking for Christian Sudanese?
I hate all religion but the most extreme one seems to be Islam.

There is definitely a massive problem with Islamist extremism.
