Ceasefire in limbo

Israel have refused to move to the second phase of the ceasefire deal and have instead asked for the first phase to be extended. Hamas has refused this request and has insisted that Israel moves to phase two as originally agreed.

In retaliation, Israel has now said they will block all humanitarian aid into Gaza. What happens next? Both for the hostages who need releasing ASAP, and for the ordinary Palestinians including children whose suffering will only increase by this blockage.

The last thing Israel wants is a permanent ceasefire. They are happy to sacrifice any remaining hostages, no wonder the families are so angry.

A permanent end to the war will be the end of Netanyahus career so he definitely wouldn't want it.

One theory that an analyst presented was that perhaps because a lot of the remaining hostages are Israeli military or dead, Netanyahu has made the calculation to restart the war. It's easier to "spin" that as they're soldiers being "captured" is a risk that comes with the role. As we've seen from Netanyahu's behaviour the hostages are the least of his concern.

Israel also fuming that US have been laising a deal with Hamas behind their backs. The US envoy even called some of the Hamas members they were liasing with 'nice guys'.

The comment section on that article.

it looks like Netanyahu may be being "left out" by the US (though arguably could all be for show/optics to make Trump look independent)

From Israeli media:
"Trump is negotiating a multi-year ceasefire with Hamas. The Israelis are incredibly upset, but Trump Boehler insisted that "we're not an agent of Israel." He said that Hamas had offered the release of all hostages in return for 1 5 to 10 year ceasefire and the release of all prisoners. Boehler did not rule out that kind of deal.

Trump is making concessions that Israel would never make. Taking Netanyahu, who he does not trust, out of talks. Just as he took Zelensky out of talks on Ukraine."
