Where next for them? Iran probably not safe and the door for negotiations would close. Turkey?

Turkey seems likely, the rest of Europe won't like it but not much they can do.

2triangles · 09/11/2024 19:16

They could get kicked out of NATO?

Algeria?

Who Turkey? Whilst I think they'd have Hamas, I don't think they would if NATO said they couldn't. They'd rather NATO than Hamas.

I rather like Turkey. I was against them joining the EU for a long time but am now of the opinion that it's better they are our allies.

Agree with a PP who said Algeria. There's always Pakistan obviously, and Afganistan.

"After rejecting repeated proposals to release hostages, its leaders should no longer be welcome in the capitals of any American partner. We made that clear to Qatar following Hamas's rejection weeks ago of another hostage release proposal," the senior official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity."

Would Hamas be welcome anywhere?

Chowtime · 09/11/2024 19:31

I think Afganistan, Pakistan and Russia would be happy to take them.

OctoberOctopus · 09/11/2024 19:33

Afghanistan or Iran (since they love terrorist scumbags)

mouthpipette · 09/11/2024 21:03

Well, here's an opinion that's not going to be very popular, but then I haven't got many friends anyway, which is why I'm on here all day.

Norway.

I probably trust them more than most other European countries.

And before I go on to describe why, I'm distinguishing between the "governing" arm of Hamas and al-Qassam, its terrorist wing. Though the two are strongly linked.

The cornerstone of democracy is that "The People" shall have a say in how they are governed and that those who govern them shall represent their best interests. .At present the only people who speak for those in Gaza are Hamas. There is no one else. We in our democracies don't seem to listen to the people of Gaza. If we did we'd make it stop. Who else have they to hear them, but Hamas?
Ideally, Hamas will either moderate or be replaced.... democratically.....

But until then, the views of Gazans and other Palestinians needs representation, and a hearing......well that leads to negotiation and negotiation leads to ceasefire and hostages with many, many other options.
So we hate what Hamas represents or has been responsible for but we have to listen. We can't stick our fingers in our ears and go La La La forever.

Why Norway? They would be great interlocutors. Track record of trying to sort out disputes, very few vested interests, good skiing.

Scirocco · 09/11/2024 21:16

@mouthpipette and it's cold. Very cold.

2triangles · 10/11/2024 06:32

Norway doesn’t mediate anymore.

This article (from a slightly left of centre organisation) seems to favour Turkey as the next base:

You lay down with dogs (Hamas), you get fleas.

Palestine has fleas because it voted them in.

Turkey nor any other country wants fleas.

Codlingmoths · 11/11/2024 02:50

Turkey should be kicked out of nato if it takes them in

Dulra · 11/11/2024 15:18

Not quite understanding your analogy.

Who are the fleas? The IDF?

Why ?
If you're going to make a contentious statement, at least back it up with some justification.

Some of your posts are written with understanding and empathy and other of your posts come across as belittling and aggressive.

You sound educated enough to have understood this analogy and I think your response comes across as goady.

A lot of us in this section feel so strongly that we end up shutting down points/ conversation by replying in argumentative ways for the sake of it. I have been guilty of this too and on reflection am trying to move forward on this board by breathing first and reacting after.

Hamas have a property portfolio in Turkey so they are definitely fine with them. I think they’ll argue they are hosting them in the same way Qatar did.

Do they now?😂

User37482 · 11/11/2024 19:46

I understand Hamas were demanding that they be left in charge of Gaza and finaces. This was never going to be acceptable. If they had any concern for Gaza they would have endorsed free and fair elections. I think the PA or a third party, ideally one of the gulf kingdoms step in to secure gaza and organise aid and security.

Hell no! There would be rioting in the streets in Norway. They can fuck off to the far side of fuck. Better yet, they can embrace their much sought after martyrdom and do the honorable thing before they lumber their presence on any other state. They can of course use the tunnels to get back into Gaza where they will be welcomed home by their own.

Yup their finance chief lives there, they own commercial property, US government think it has something like $1 billion of assets.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/10/30/property-developments-hamas-1bn/

Terror groups are pretty good at funnelling cash, Al-Qaeda have interests in gold mining in Afghanistan (bit worrying that) Hezbollah have been on the radar for laundering drug money, imagine they are selling captagon.

Inside the gleaming developments that made Hamas a $1bn terror group

Edited

Sad isn't it. Disgusting that they profit whilst their people suffer 😒

Maybe it's linked to the type of post I'm responding to. Didn't think the analogy of Palestine having fleas was very appropriate or deserving of an understanding response
