Conflict in the Middle East

We're not seeing it, are we?

I watch the news, on the BBC, on RTE, on Channel 4 from time to time - but tonight it struck me that they don't show what's happening in the ME, they show a sanitised version of it that won't upset us. Even with the 'may contain distressing content' warning, what they show is edited to remove truly distressing content - ie, the truth of what's happening on all sides. I am not saying I want to watch extreme violence, but actually I think I should, because it's what's happening. I'm lucky to be in the position to observe it and not experience it. Maybe seeing the reality of the conflict would provoke more outrage and put more pressure on our politicians to take action to stop it. I did a bit of a deep dive into YouTube this evening and came away shocked - which I think any humane person would be. We need reality in our mainstream media, not trigger warnings.

Is it libellous? Are you saying they're not Hamas?

If Al Jazeera journalists chose to sue for libel then there does not seem to be any defence that would stand up, so yes, libelous.

Although there is plenty of evidence of anti-Semitic bias on Al Jazeera.

And using Twitter or Instagram as a reliable news source seems pretty risky to me.

I'm another who prefers not to see too much as I find it quite traumatising. I watched the BBC documentary about the Nova Music Festival and felt awful for days afterwards so I don't want to watch unverified stuff on Insta, etc. I can appreciate the horror on all sides of this without seeing it in person.
I too miss Al-Jazeera on terrestrial TV as it was good seeing things from the different viewpoint

I agree, (although I couldn't watch it all) and that was the (very) "sanitised" version. I'm guessing that it must be the most videoed attrocity ever, just because the perpetrators were so willing to record and publish. I can't even read about what happened. The idea that the video should be shown on News at Ten is really not very sensible.

My SM feeds haven't picked up on it at all (FB, Insta), literally nothing, depends who you follow I guess. It isn't coming up IRL conversations much either, maybe I am in a bubble, it's not that I don't think about it but more that there is nothing I can really do beyond donating to aid agencies.

There are plenty of IDF soldiers' videos on SM, so no, at least by duration the 7Oct has been since dwarfed. Other videos we've seen by survivors show inimaginable horrors people are living through in Gaza. I'm not advocating all those details are shown on the news, as images of shredded children are truly disturbing, but would we see in if it was happening in France? Or, say, in Israel? Amputations with no anaestetics, anyone? Yep, too hard, let's talk about celebrities, coming Christmas, and never mention our government involvement in that.
