Whilst the focus has been on Ukraine and Gaza, I've just heard that in Sudan's 2 year war, the latest death estimate is over 150,000 people. WHO figures.

That's awful.

Also describes 'one of the worst humanitarian crisis'. More women and children dying.

Men and their egos, religion or land. Whatever the reason, its all awful.

Hoping for peace in Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan, any anywhere else where war is raging.

Then there's China and Taiwan always at the ready.

By the way, just in case someone suggests it's irrelevant it isn't. Sudan is considered part of the middle east.

"The MENA region includes 20 countries and territories, including Sudan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

Sudan is located at the crossroads of the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa. The country is bordered by the Red Sea to the east, and the Nile River runs through it from south to north. Sudan's strategic location and natural resources make it important for both Africa and the Middle East.

The name Sudan comes from the Arabic phrase bilād al-sūdān, which means "land of the blacks". Medieval Arab geographers used this term to describe the African countries that started at the Sahara's southern edge. "

To clarify thd situation in Sudan

"Sudan is facing extreme levels of food insecurity, with 18 million people—37% of the population—experiencing severe levels of acute food insecurity. Every day, millions of mothers and fathers are having to make impossible choices to feed their families, often going days without any food."

Similar to Gaza in that rebel groups joined in, escalating the situation.

"As of 5 July 2024, over 7.7 million were internally displaced and more than 2.1 million others had fled the country as refugees,[and many civilians in Darfur have been reported dead as part of the Masalit massacres."

This fact really stood out.

"No one knows the true death toll due to ongoing violence, but a conservative estimate based on available data suggests more than 110,000 people have already perished from violence and hunger. Nearly 26 million Sudanese —half of the entire country— are facing high levels of acute food insecurity."

It's a forgotten war. Rightly the world is talking about the Ukraine war and the war in Gaza and now in Lebanon but it seems to have forgotten the people, who are also innocent of Sudan.

Nothing helpful to add, came on here to agree its men and their egos. Everywhere. Just violent men leading countries into wars.

It's all couched as terribly complex internecine struggles requiring delicate diplomacy, but essentially its male violence, male oppression and male ego.

I wish the news would try replacing saying "Putin" or "Hezbollah" with 'A stupid violent man" and "A group of stupid violent men" ...

Toomanywars · 16/10/2024 15:30

The reason I'm posting this is its on Sky, The BBC and Al Jazerra today. Its getting some coverage.

The human race is and always has been at war of some kind. We strive for peace, it is not the baseline normality.

It's horrendous and disastrous and highlights the cruelty of humans but it's the nature of men to create and wage war.

Sadly, you are correct. We haven't evolved enough to get on peacefully.

I guess now war is online, on the media and in your face. Years ago it might have been more remote.

Imagine the horrendous suffering in the 2 World Wars but we couldn't see it via our phones.

Vietnam, Korean war both dreadful on the weapons used but not so many images. It felt more remote.

"Today, Sudan is a geopolitical battleground — but one ignored by the international community, preoccupied as it is with the fighting in other parts of the world. This new dossier, produced by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, members of the Sudanese community, and Migration Control, seeks to shed light on the ongoing turmoil in the country, the role played by our own governments, and the efforts of revolutionary activists on the ground to revive the emancipatory spirit of 2018–19."

I've been reading up.on this forgotten war.

Some of ISIS most notorious terrorists, and the most serious abuses committed by ISIS, were done by women. Yes, men appear to disproportionately be involved in violence of this type…but women are far from innocent.

Sudan isn’t a forgotten war - at least by Governments. We donated a huge amount to support those affected by the conflict last year. So again, nuance is important; the average person on the street doesn’t care.

I think most people don’t think about things like this daily - and I completely understand why. But to say it’s forgotten is inaccurate.

"Some of ISIS most notorious terrorists, and the most serious abuses committed by ISIS, were done by women. Yes, men appear to disproportionately be involved in violence of this type…but women are far from innocent."

Men are proportionately more involved. The terrorists organisations are led by men. Isis brides appear to be recruited and groomed. Do they have any say? Genuine question.

innocent civilians keep being killed because of the ego of some men that are in their houses safe

This is always happening...not worth worrying about to be honest.

MissyB1 · 16/10/2024 16:44

I've been following what's happening in Sudan for a while, channel 4 have reported on it now and again. It's horrendous. The world is in such a state 😥

Like women don't have egos, and female leaders have never taken their nation into a conflict...

Not so much though. The current conflicts have male terrorist leaders and male leaders of countries at war etc. Mainly men.
