Apparently US is urging israel to take all the necessary steps to avoid hurting civilians . Meanwhile israel has flatten a residential building in beirut because a hesbollah leader was there (he was not)
Every-time i watch a press conference with the us official i cringe so badly ! I mean who are they trying to fool ? When will this stop ? The only ones who can stop this madness is US.
Is like watching a repeat of gaza in lebanon !

A journalist told the US spokesperson that people in US are fed up of the bullshit coming out of the government. Can’t agree more. Unfortunately, doesn’t seem like with Kamala or Donald things will improve.

Even if they had, they would have said “Israel killed 22 ….. mainly Hezbollah militia.

This is Gaza but see this Channel 4 clip of Matt Frei talking to a former general Israeli Defence Forces Military attaché to Washington D.C., minimising the Israeli hit on a school that killed so many and wounded even more.

Transcript excerpt:
Matt Frei: And yet even today, we saw 28 Palestinians killed in an attack on a school. These are continuing tragedies which presumably will make the situation, whatever it is, at the end, more and more difficult to deal with.
Relik Shafir: I’m not quite sure, because of those 28, most of those have been Hamas terrorists. So in a way, this is, in this war, after about 40,000 casualties, Gazan casualties, close to 20,000 were Hamas terrorists. And unfortunately, with those, since they’re hiding within the civilian population, there have been casualties on the civilian side as well. But the numbers at this time, as Israel is controlling Gaza, the casualties are mostly Hamas terrorists. And this is a continuing war of attrition against Hamas and against [Yahya] Sinwar.

Ultimately the Israel government/army will justify everything with ‘but, but human shields’. Netanyahu is on a murderous roll and I honestly do not know when he will stop.

I despise him and all the terrorists from Hezbollah and Hamas too. I hope they all rot in hell.

I think people are seriously over estimating the US’ ability to do anything (or be taken seriously by anyone).

If the US were really capable of effecting change in the world order they’d have been less useless on Ukraine, less useless on Afghanistan, less useless on Iraq, less useless on Somalia, less useless on Venezuela etc etc.

Ultimately, Israel will carry on as long as it takes and no one can stop them.

Aussieland · 11/10/2024 15:13

Unfortunately I think the US are stuck. They have the choice of supporting Israel and therefore supporting genocide and slaughter or leaving Israel to it and they will be obliterated by Iran, Russia and all their backers who will take great pleasure in destroying Israel as a proxy for the US. I am in no way saying it’s ok they are giving Israel weapons but the alternative isn’t awesome

mouthpipette · 11/10/2024 15:34

Until the US has another reliable partner in the Middle East, it will do all it can to preserve the State of Israel. It's simply a decision based on their strategic needs in the region. The US may tut, frown and voice disapproval, but when push comes to shove, they will try to prevent from happening anything that will hinder Israel.

Aussieland · 11/10/2024 15:36

Exactly. It also knows that the Jewish people of Israel would suffer hugely and they don’t want that. It must be so difficult to work out how to protect civilians on both sides

You’ve presented that as though the US giving Israel offensive weapons, is the only option they have to stop Israel being obliterated, which is quite frankly based on a lot of assumptions and lack of imagination regarding alternatives.

Genuinely interested to hear how else you think they can do it (not being snarky!) as I would love to see them stop supplying weapons and supporting genocide! I have always been bemused why they are such huge supporters of Israel and maybe am being unimaginative you are right

PeasfullPerson · 11/10/2024 17:24

Well, for a start they could make attempts to stop supplying weapons and parts that can be used offensively by Israel.

They could also introduce some actual consequences for the breaches of international law, which could temporarily put Israel in a slightly worse place, but in the longer term could help to stabilise the issue, by making them think more about the offensive actions they are taking (which are escalating the cycle of violence).

Short term consequences for Israel could also cause disruption within Israel that leads to a change in government, as the people become more and more aware Netanyahu has completely messed up and couldn’t give a rats arse about them. This would be good for the people of Israel and their safety.

More time and effort (Israel and US) could then be focused on building better relations with the Middle East, instead of causing issues, and paying lip service to it, which could lead to more influence over whatever problems and threats they perceive. Better relations would not be equivalent to a continued occupation of Palestine that dehumanises people and treats them unfairly.

They could focus more on helping to create a Palestine (and other similar places) where people have more to hope for than vengeance and are therefore less likely to be exploited in a way that increases the level of threat to Israel.

That’s my simple lay persons thoughts on the situation. I am sure somebody else could do a better job.

But I don’t think US will bother with anything like that anyway, because they obviously perceive some benefit to themselves with the way they are handing this shit show. And it would involve being much braver than I think they could manage. If your attacking you feel like your doing something to resolve the situation, it’s probably more comfortable than accepting that there will always be an element of risk that can never be completely controlled.

Could also stop inviting / welcoming Nentanhayu in their country. I know this is a symbolic thing but welcoming someone into their country that is under investigation for war crimes by ICJ feels like they align with them.

also, they could accept what their national organisations are telling them about Israel not allowing aid into the country. They’ve done this as there is a law that says any country preventing aid shouldn’t be sold weapons by USA.

Yes they could do more to show support for the UN, ICC and ICJ.
