Did anyone watch this? So depressing and bleak. For those of you who deny the concern others have for children growing up filled with hate watch this.
The children are more radicalized than their parent/grandparent.

Guardian and Telegraph review for balance.

State of Rage review – every minute of this documentary has a quote to stop the heart

This urgent, illuminating film follows a Palestinian and Israeli family in the West Bank to create a bold and vivid picture of how fierce conflict affects people’s psyches

When I posted about this documentary I thought it would be an undeniably uncomfortable watch whichever way your sympathies lie. I thought there might be some push back even though the overriding take away is ultimately more important.
That's why I posted reviews from both The Guardian and The Telegraph both of which give it 4/5. The Telegraph is a 110% pro Israel paper just in case anyone is not aware.

@StupidFarang Your push back against it is particularly disappointing/not valid because you have not even watched it. If you watch it and all you feel is injustice about the representation of Israel then I think that in itself reflects what the documentary is showing.

@PinkStringofHearts Its interesting to see the Israeli settler child talk about how beautiful it is and why would you ever want to leave ( as an aside to that he expects the Palestinians to leave) whilst the Palestinian child talks about the freedom to travel and leave. That's the underlying psyche of one who has a choice and one who does not.
But the whole situation is awful for all the children in different ways.

Its not representative full stop and wasn't intended to be. No problem with the film chosing extremists but it doesn't represent israeli psyche as per the reviews. No more than the family in the NYT article do.
Sorry that disappoints you.

Some Palestinians live in Israel, most don't.
Why are you commenting if you don't know that basic fact?

I didn't think I had to state the obvious that not all do. The guy that runs my local greengrocer is Palestinian and we live very far from Israel or Palestine.

StupidFarang · 01/10/2024 10:49

And it's not about being pro or anti israel. It's just stating objective facts.

Yes I understand it is an extremist minority view but when it is state supported the optics become wider than that

And Palestinian terrorists are also sponsored by their government. Literally. They give families money if their family member commits a terrorist act in Israel / against Israelis. This has been going on for absolutely years.

Don't get me wrong, I detest violent illegal settlers just as much as I detest Palestinian terrorists. They're exactly the same and they should all be left to rot in jail. But it's important to see the full picture here and not ignore parts of it.

I think what struck me was how scared they all were. The 16yo Israeli girl was full of bravado but clearly she was scared too. It's a tricky one because in my head I was like well, why doesn't the mom just move? Your kids are clearly suffering the effects of the lifestyle choice to be an illegal settler, it clearly troubled the mom. Move back to France or move to Israel, take your children away from the toxicity, after all like you say they have the choice. It was a stark contrast to the Palestinian family who could not leave their home some days.

I suppose that's where the indoctrination of ideology comes into play. Whether that is the settler ideology or the ideology some Palestinians have that it is their duty to free their people at whatever cost to themselves.

I don't know, it just left me sad for them all really and I don't see how the cycle can end until Palestinians are given self determination because unsurprisingly they won't stop until they get it. Unfortunately the doc left me with the feeling that it will go very far the other way instead.
