As we approach the anniversary of October 7th...

October 7th 2024 will mark one year since the horrendous terrorist attack and atrocities carried out. One year for the hostages of being held captive in Gaza under terrible conditions. One year of fear and grief for families in Israel and around the world.

As we approach the anniversary, I thought it might be of help to have a thread where we can share ways in which we can support survivors and honour the memories of the innocent people murdered on that day...

Great idea. May they never be forgotten.

The anniversary has been weighing heavily
there are numerous charities but two that come to mind are Hatzolah UK and Jewish Child’s day

I understand that there is a documentary, with contributions from survivors, on BBC tonight.

Two of the young people who were at the music festival spoke on Newsnight last night. Remarkable young woman and young man. Driven to change things and promote peace.

This has been v much on my mind as October approaches. I think of the Bibas children and their mother every day. Naama Levy too. All the hostages, of course.

Yes I hope a fitting memorial takes place. I watched the BBC programme last night about what occurred with footage from both survivors (the terror and bravery shown) and from the terrorists body cams (vile creatures celebrated towards a god and rejoiced as they slaughtered people).

Never forget. Hopeful for the remaining hostages.

Without wishing to derail the thread: I know (from your comments on other CITME threads) that you have personally lost loved ones and still have friends/family in Gaza and Lebanon, and the generosity and compassion for 'the other side' that shines through in your OP has me in tears. So shukran, @Scirocco 🙏

I would echo others that the We Will Dance Again documentary on the BBC is worth watching. It's a tough watch. For those who can't face watching the whole programme there is a 7 minute short version here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/c0qznj3l5ypo

We danced with joy then hid among the dead – Nova survivors recall Hamas massacre

A new BBC documentary provides a harrowing glimpse into the Hamas attack at the Nova music festival in Israel, in which hundreds of people were killed.

Thank you, @PoloMum . The most important side for any of us to be on is the side of peace and compassion for our fellow humans.

Thank you for sharing the video link too, the film is a difficult one to watch, but an important one.

There are commemorative events in London, Manchester and Leeds.

I'm not Jewish but stand in solidarity with Jewish women, children and men.

This is a very moving music piece from Koolulam about the hostages

Thanks @Scirocco for this thread ❤

I have been watching some of these stories recently; it's a project which shares a little bit about the lives of the victims of 7/10. Remembering them as they were, not how they died.
There is a funding appeal for it as well (I can't vouch for any links as I have not donated to it). This is the project if anyone wants to see www.instagram.com/bringthemlight_oct7/?locale=zh-TW&hl=am-et
and this is the fundraiser
https://my.israelgives.org/en/fundme/BringThemLight
They are fundraising both for a memorial light installation

There is another project with a bit about each of the victims, and people can write messages to their families, but I can't find the link for some reason.

THE BRING THEM LIGHT PROJECT   The BringThemLight project was born out of the profound grief and disbelief following the tragic events of October 7th, where over 1,400 lives were brutally taken.

Totally agree with this sentiment. Peace for all is what many of us want.

Yes, I think of them often.
Shiri Bibas and her little red haired boys Ariel and Kfir 😢🙏🏻

Does anyone know what happened to that family? So awful

Sussurations · 27/09/2024 23:44

Thank you @Scirocco. I think about the hostages daily and pray for all those who are suffering in this conflict. Rachel Goldberg-Polin’s strength and dignity has impressed me very deeply.
