This is an interesting short video about Britain's role in Palestine 1917 - 48, including the promise to Arabs 1915 and the Balfour Declaration to Zionists 1917, for anyone interested in roots of the conflict

NB I haven't fact checked all of it but you can find a lot more information online on the key bits such as declaration fairly easily if you want to fact check.

Thank you for putting this up. I am short of time now but I will look at it tomorrow.
I did look for the Balfour Declaration on Wiki some days ago. I expected something very long but it was very brief, unless I was reading a precis of it.

As I understand it, Britain promised a homeland but not a state.

It also made promises to the Arabs, who would make their feelings plain over the next three decades.

Incidentally, I've not watched the video (am commuting) but you can hardly blame the British for starting this. Zionism began in the 19th century. Jewish immigrants were already settling in Palestine before 1917.

It is probably worth watching the video as the need for a homeland or shared state or two state solutions are all reasonable concepts but what comes across as less than ideal is how it was handled over a period of decades. Relevant if it sheds light on what might be workable solutions today.
