I watched Gabor Matés interview with Piers and found it excellent. He mentioned so many points we have been debating for weeks on this thread

  • the importance of context
  • charters
  • Israels right of self defence - and his own experience in Hungary of that
  • steps for way forward

Did anyone else watch it?

I haven't seen Norman Finklesteins yet but it appears to be in the same line.

Im wondering, for all those who support the war, how does, if it does, impact your/their views when holocaust survivors themselves decry most of Israels actions?

FIL was amongst first british soldiers in to liberate belsen. Said it was unspeakable, he still cried about it in his 80s. To think of the horrors inflicted on innocent people then , whose ancestors are oppressing and massacring the Palestinians is unbelievable.
But this interview reminds us how many decent people there are in Israel and around the world. It must be heartbreaking for them too.

This is what I am struggling to understand. How can you have gone through something yourself, and then do it to someone else and justify it?

The dehumanisation and erasure of Palestinians and the idea that they "deserve this" - the Israeli students shouting death to Arabs and children singing about flattening Gaza - the concerts and weddings in Israel in the last month where death to Gaza is cheered - is this not the same thing that was done to Jewish communities prior to ww2? I can't get my head around speaking about this, educating people against it, and then doing it to someone else or watching it being done.

I think he spoke really eloquently. He’s not just worth listening to as a Holocaust survivor, he’s worth listening to as he is an expert in trauma who understands the issues.

The current situation and history is so tragic. At the moment the way forward looks so difficult.

I agree @Chaitales , i cant get my head round it at all.
