"It is now days since Israeli forces entered Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, and what appears to be happening on Friday is that they are continuing their search for evidence of this being a key Hamas command centre.

We have to remember that there is no independent scrutiny inside the hospital; journalists cannot move freely into Gaza, and any who are reporting from the site are working under the aegis of the Israeli military.

The evidence Israel has produced, so far, I do not believe to be convincing in terms of the kind of rhetoric Israelis were using about the set-up at the hospital, which suggested this was a nerve centre for the Hamas operation."

Bowen: Ceasefire demands will grow without proof of Hamas HQ at Al-Shifa

Israel's rhetoric suggested the Gaza City hospital was a nerve centre for the Hamas operation.

During the report, Bowen discussed the Israeli military's targeting of Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, saying: "The priority they gave to Shifa means that once they drove into Gaza City, they killed a lot of people.

"Their argument has always been that so many people have been killed because Hamas has been using them as human shields."

Bowen expressed scepticism about the evidence presented by the Israeli military, particularly regarding a pile of Kalashnikovs allegedly found in the hospital. "The evidence up to now on the pile of Kalashnikovs there, I'm afraid is not convincing," he added. "Wherever you go in the Middle East, you see an awful lot of Kalashnikovs."

he will probably be cancelled now for stating the obvious that a few guns either planted or found in the hospital does not constitute a major Hamas operation and justifies the death of all those premature babies.

I think that this piece in the Guardian is referring to another BBC short report by Ros Atkins which I've seen on twitter and worth looking at

''Even the videos produced so far have raised questions under scrutiny. A BBC analysis found the footage of an IDF spokesperson showing the apparent discovery of a bag containing a gun behind an MRI scanning machine, had been taped hours before the arrival of the journalists to whom he was supposedly showing it.

In a video shown later, the number of guns in the bag had doubled. The IDF claimed its video of what it found at the hospital was unedited, filmed in a single take, but the BBC analysis found it had been edited.

I found that he was very measured in his article. He was very professional and used cautious language. Despite all this they are attacking him. Ffff.

Yes. I watched part of Atkins video earlier. They are doing nothing but stating the obvious. You don't have to be an intelligence operative to see what's going on.

Israel are going to be in a bit of a tight corner if the Hamas HQ is not actually there. The fact that the “are you supporting Hamas” rhetoric has started up probably isn’t a good sign.

InvisibleDuck · 19/11/2023 10:08

Hamas knew for a long time that the IDF were trying to get to the hospital.

If I were Hamas and I had a weapons cache or documents or anything else at all of importance there I'd have moved it out through the tunnels weeks ago.

Israel looking bad when they can't find the kind of evidence that would satisfy the world that the hospital was being used as a command center would be a nice bonus.

That said, faking videos is also stupid and Israel should know there will be too much scrutiny to get away with that.

Brace yourself. The IDF are currently there, they should have learnt their lesson by now.

This time they'll probably use more competent film directors/ producers/ screenwriers in their manufactured evidence instead of the amateurish nonsense they've been serving us so far.
