if you’re going to make a negative comment please move on. Only united positive vibes

BBC article today- protesters standing outside the House of Commons

The crowd was made up of Christians, Muslims, Jews, people of other faiths and no faith.

‘Our shared future is based on the belief that all human beings are equal, and deserving of respect and safety," one attendee, Magnen Inon, whose parents were killed by Hamas on 7 October, told me.

"This is how I was raised and how I am raising my own children.”

A minutes' silence was held for victims on both sides of the war and I saw imams and rabbis hug each other in the name of humanity.

I’m with you and would like to think that this how most ordinary people feel about each other. The recent atrocities have reminded us there should be no room for hate in our hearts.
On a personal note I have been moved enough by the stance taken by lots of Jewish people in the last few weeks to research Judaism and improve my understanding of the religion. We can’t stop the war but we can stop hating /developing hate for each other. I will never be able to understand the current Israeli regime but I will not allow their hatred to build hate in my heart.

I agree. I have been called an anti-Semite for calling for a ceasefire.

calling for a ceasefire for me stems from the amount of suffering I have seen and from my own son dying and I was hopeless to stop it. It was and still is the worst pain and I see a lot of people losing their loved ones and it needs to stop.

Loving my Palestinian brothers and sisters and wanting their safety does not stop me from loving my Jewish brothers and sisters.

Definitely more of that is needed. No hate or diminishing others pain and loss. Just standing together and mourning together. It gives some hope to these weeks of unrest.

thatone · 15/11/2023 21:11

We need to hear more of these sane voices expressing our common humanity.

FOJN · 15/11/2023 21:12

This does not surprise me. I sincerely believe most of the human race just wants to live in peace and is appalled by the suffering of ALL victims, and their loved ones, in this conflict.

Thank you OP for highlighting this peaceful protest, it gives me little bit if hope.

Thank you for letting us know of this glimpse of light.

I am Muslim. And I have been moved by the show of support and compassion from the Jewish community here and around the world. In my religion we refer to Jews and Christians as the people of the book. The people of our beloved prophets Moses and Jesus. And seeing the Jews stand shoulder to shoulder with Muslims has really made by faith stronger and made me realise that we all fear and love that one God.
People of no religion have always had an impression on me that they are honest, decent and strong people. They are in a league and class of their own. Simply because, anything good I do is because of fear of my lord. Anything good non religious people do is because they are the best of the human race.

MushMonster · 16/11/2023 07:14

Thanks for sharing!
We definitively need to hear the voices of the kind ones. They do give me some hope.

What a nice way to think about atheists when they do acts of kindness

Not given much thought to this myself but you are right

I agree, what a lovely response 2band.

Wow! This thread is a real beacon in the darkness. Thank you for starting it OP.

Xenia · 16/11/2023 13:13

I am not sure they turned out in such numbers when Hamas terrorists murdered 1200 including slitting the throats of babies, however.

however I certainly agree that if people can listen to each other andn help each other that is a good thing. Of the UK's 67m population about 52% are atheist and 47% Christian (ie virtually everyone is Christian or atheist) but we allow those who have a religion other than Christianity to live in peace here and that is one reason we have ended up with so very many different people some opposing each other and even opposing British rights to equality for men and women etc. it gets harder to maintain harmony when views different but the Uk has seen this all before including when Catholics and Protestants were killing each other back in the 1500s. Sadly mankind (usually men not women) find it hard to live in peace.

That’s very true, Xenia, but this lovely thread is trying to show examples about when they do, and trying to inspire thoughts of that nature.

Wow, thank you for saying such a lovely thing :) I am atheist, my DH and I come from two fairly religious families so it hasn't always gone down well! But thank you, its the nicest thing I've ever read about atheists.

HeidiInTheBigCity · 16/11/2023 18:04

Seconded! I am an atheist, too! This is a lovely thing to say! Not sure we all always live up to it, but: thank you!
