I don't understand what reasons they have given for targeting hospitals, in particular.

Lifesd · 18/11/2023 22:55

@stormy4319trevor how about reframing that question - why are Hamas using hospitals as their headquarters when they know more innocent civilians will die because of their tactics?

How about reframing that yourself. Because Hamas haven’t used it as headquarters. Watched the bbc report or the many other reports recently? 🤦‍♀️They’ve planted a few weapons there to make it look like it’s their headquarters. Social media is full of videos of analysis of the propaganda video made by the idf. It’s all been proven as lies.

You clearly aren’t up to date with the rest of the world. So here have a peak at this and think twice about what you are posting. “But Hamas are hiding there so we have to kill children” doesn’t work for anyone anymore https://x.com/kitklarenberg/status/1725552488516911330?s=46&t=eApyQwxkdiGUWJcyEmIdVA

Why? Why do I care about this and not Yemen? I have no fucking idea what’s going on in Yemen. I’m not out here hunting for wars. I am trying to mind my own business and can’t scroll two minutes on social media without seeing video of this. Memorable moments include a man carrying body parts of his family in plastic bags, yesterday a 2 year old with no legs, countless maimed, traumatised and injured children and today a UN school which has been blown to bits with bodies scattered all over the floor.

Im sorry but I’m not going to shut up about this. How can I turn a blind eye whilst this horror is all over my news feeds. And our government aren't saying anything about Yemen (or not that I have heard). Currently our government are pretty much supporting this genocide.

If you think this is ok there’s something seriously fucking wrong with you.

SomeCatFromJapan · 19/11/2023 08:29

Is something only not okay if you have to see it when you scroll though? Out of sight, out of mind, if it's not in the news cycle it doesn't matter?

headstone · 19/11/2023 08:47

I think it would be better if more people saw these horrific images and got an idea about what the reality of collateral damage is all about. It’s nothing but the legalised murder of thousands of poor people like that little girl. I wish people like Sunak were forced to look at it. Imagine if this was one of your little girls Sunak, would you still want Netanyahu to win?

Eskarina1 · 19/11/2023 09:09

I agree with @Artwhatttt - there are devastating things going on all the time but I don't know about then and (crucially) my government isn't supporting them.

For what it's worth, I boycotted Chinese products for years over human rights abuses, I've sent Amnesty International letters on different topics. It feels like screaming into the wind. What's different here is we're being asked to accept the narrative that it's justified. That makes us part of the problem.

Nobody who supports Israel in their actions seems to be able or willing to answer any questions. The MO seems to be deflect, deflect, deflect. And bonus points if you can deflect with Islamophobia.

Noelectricheating · 19/11/2023 10:50

Lifesd · 18/11/2023 22:10

Really? Ok some facts for you - since the Yemen war began 4 million people have been displaced, 17.4 million are suffering from food shortages and malnutrition, 11000 children have been killed. The Chinese government has imprisoned more than one million people since 2017 and subjected those not detained to intense surveillance, religious restrictions, forced labor, and forced sterilizations. But all your ire is reserved for Isreal?

It's awful the things 'humans' do to other humans around the world. Most seemingly go unnoticed.

Absolutely ridiculous.

This conflict is only the second we in the west have seen broadcast in modern technology (first hand smart phone video). Ukraine was the first.

At the time of Ukraine there was loads of similar commenters to yourself. Why would we care about that? Oh it’s because they are white. And at the start of this? Why would you care about that? Because it’s antisemitism?

No, it’s because no one in their right fucking mind thinks it’s ok for a 2 year old to be blown up and have no legs. These archaic old men do not realise that we normal civilians can see this now. We couldn’t see post 9/11 Afghanistan what was really happening. He might want to deny children being blown up but it’s black and fucking white. And they are the bad guys. Pure evil.

Im ashamed of our spineless government for not standing up about this. Besides the point it’s fundamentally morally wrong. We will never be able to have respect worldwide and influence peace on the world ever again. We are hypocrites. Even Israel spokesman said himself in that video ‘but you killed civilians post 9/11’. They aren’t on our side. Their arrogance is astounding. They think we are idiots and they can gaslight us.

Im not going to get into why they are the biggest idiots here but I am sure they will find out in the next 20/30 years. The majority of these archaic men will be dead by then so what do they care. History will know their names and not in a good way. Israelis, Jewish people and the west and our civilians generally are the ones which will be left to suffer the consequences.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/11/2023 13:49

I agree it'll cause issues for years to come. Hideous war, and nothing justifies this genocide from a nasty right wing government, whilst the West looks the other way.

For some posters, to disagree with the right wing Zionist government who have killed thousands of civilians means that the person disagreeing (a) condones the atrocities of 7/11 and (b) is ant-Semitic and (c) supports Hamas
The themes of the arguments tend to go:

  • what about the hostages?
  • it’s fake news/ Hamas propaganda
  • if you don’t support the actions of the Netanyahu government, this means that you support terrorists and that makes you a bad person who doesn’t care about Jewish people.
  • you’re a hypocrite because bad things are being done elsewhere and because you are targeting this particular war, you’re anti-Semitic ( the bad things cited not directly supported by UK or US, not being done democratic states and are situations where public opinion in UK/US/EU will not generate a ceasefire)
The threads are often very formulaic, lack personal non identifying details and have a flavour of of Israeli government public diplomacy I have followed these threads now for several weeks and there is no hint in some cases as to whether they are genuine
