“Israel's prime minister is downplaying a leaked intelligence ministry document that proposed the relocation of millions of Palestinians to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt.
As part of the plan, tent cities would be constructed in the area, with more permanent cities being constructed at a later date. The plan also calls for a humanitarian corridor to aid the resettled population and a security perimeter to be created to prevent them from entering Israel.”

I am speechless. This is looking worse and worse. So boot them out and set up a security perimeter. Shame on you Israel.

Got caught doing a little ethnic cleansing.

This could look bad for Israel. Best ramp up the anti-semitism accuser hordes on Twitter and Instagram. Get Modi on the line.

It was always about land. Poor Palestinians paying the price.

Someone else posted this on another thread which may shed some light on Israel's end game.

That explains a lot!

There are multiple reports of a field hospital being set up near the Rafah crossing, on the Egyptian side, which is supposed to be for the treatment of injured Palestinians.

I wonder if the people treated there will be allowed back after Israel has levelled Gaza.

While this is important, the following is also vital to understand:

The new discoveries of oil and natural gas in the Levant Basin, amounting to 122 trillion cubic feet of natural gas at a net value of $453 billion (in 2017 prices) and 1.7 billion barrels of recoverable oil at a net value of about $71 billion (from the link posted)

While that does sound like a lot of money (and it is!) in terms of the "natural resources" world, it is actually relatively minor (let that sink in for a second!).

Here are some figures that provide vital context:

  • 488.5 bnUSD (2021) - GDP of Israel (Source: World Bank)
  • >4tnUSD (2023 - and yes, that means "trillion") - annual combined global revenue of the oil & gas industry (Source: various; go google it!)
  • 161 bnUSD (last fiscal) - profit made by Saudi Aramco during their last reported fiscal year

Long story short: yes, natural resources might be a game changer for Gaza - but in the world of oil & gas, this is a "non-item"; for Israel it might be "nice" but not vital - this has always been and continues about national identity and land!

The construction by Egypt along the Gaza border sounds disturbing. It's a small space for so many people, surrounded by high security walls. I don't know if it will provide protection to people, or just be an even more concentrated space of deprivation and open to surveillance and entry by the Israeli army. It sounds alarming, though one hopes Egypt intends it to be a safe space?

Footle · 17/02/2024 12:29

Hence the term ´concentration camp' , experienced by many of my relatives.

Snowypeak · 17/02/2024 13:51

Yes, exactly what people could see months ago, as clear as day. I can’t understand how any other country is giving this any financial support. If you tolerate this, etc.

Crazy isn't it? I really just can't fathom how the US and UK etc are justifying it. I watched a US spokesman earlier, trying to explain why they had defunded UNRWA based on unfounded claims but hadn't defunded Israel based on claims it is plausibly committing genocide. The cognitive dissonance.

Kindatired · 17/02/2024 14:42

So documents that prove that they intend to forcibly displace the population of Gaza. This is in breach of the Geneva convention Article 49

I think people must be afraid that Israel will use nuclear weapons. Government members have talked about it, now and in the past.

Snowypeak · 17/02/2024 17:10

What other reason could there be?

TwilightSkies · 17/02/2024 17:15

Yeah we all knew this would happen! Terrible.

Fussandmisery · 17/02/2024 17:16

Quelle surprise.

Interesting explanation of the N Sinai 'walled compound' seen on satellite photos

Egypt claims it is building a ‘logistical area’ in Rafah for receiving aid

North Sinai Governor Mohamed AbdelFadhil Shousha says that the Egyptian armed forces are building an area in Rafah to receive humanitarian aid and relief for Gaza.
In a statement released by his public relations office, he says that this would “ease the burden on truck drivers and the overcrowding at Al-Arish and on the roads, in addition to easing the work of the Egypt Red Crescent”.

He also says that the area will include designated spaces for trucks, storage units, administrative offices and places for the drivers to stay overnight that will have access to electricity and “other living requirements”.

We’ve previously reported that satellite images show Egypt levelling land and building a wall along its border with the Gaza Strip near the Rafah crossing.
The construction suggests Egypt is preparing for a possible influx of displaced Palestinians, amid fears that Israel’s planned ground invasion of Rafah

I think people must be afraid that Israel will use nuclear weapons. Government members have talked about it, now and in the past.

Please think this through.

If Israel was to use nuclear weapons against Gaza where do you think the nuclear fallout would go with a predominantly onshore wind (ie eastwards).

Why would Israel want to irradiate southern Israel or do have another half baked conspiracy theory to explain that as well?

Snowypeak · 17/02/2024 21:57

Mmm hope you’re right.

Snowypeak · 17/02/2024 22:06

I don’t think they seriously planned nuclear attacks on Gaza as they’ve been able to almost completely destroy Gaza now using conventional weapons. Which isn’t to say they wouldn’t use them further afield. Certainly Israeli ministers have tossed the possibility out there over the years.

Snowypeak · 17/02/2024 22:14

Good history of the relationships and (many) crises over the years between Israel and the US during the different leaderships.
