I feel literally sick. The worst thing that could happen to a parent.

It's heartbreaking to watch. Just awful.

That poor little boy and his poor family. And all of the other families that are suffering, both Jewish and Palestinian.

I wish that there were leaders on both sides who could find a way of making it stop.

Onlinemum22 · 21/10/2023 11:33

Anyone involved in inflicting such suffering, on either side, are repulsive and not worthy of being human.

I don't believe in hell, but my goodness do I hope there is one when I see things like that.

sunnyseed · 21/10/2023 11:36

Yes, there’s heartbreak and suffering on both sides.

This kind of reporting makes me angry, actually, has for years. Would they do it in Hampstead?

We're moving this thread to the Middle East conflict board.

I don't think there's a war going on in Hampstead.

War reporting is pretty standard.

suspect you know what I meant.

Perhaps it shouldn’t be? Would you want a camera shoved in your face if your loved ones had just been blown up? Surely people have the intelligence and imagination not to have to be shown such scenes?

I didn't click your link. But have seen the full video elsewhere.

After he identifies him, his wife asks to see her dead son one last time. He says no, because half his face is missing. She begs and begs. So they show her only the normal half.

One of the most devastating things I've seen.

Theredjellybean · 21/10/2023 23:41

and this is one of the reasons i now view Sunak with such disgust - he did not speak for all of us when he said we stand with Israel and we hope you win.
No one is winning when innocents are being killed, or starved or subject to a terrible humanitarian crisis.
The western 'allies' of Israel are standing by and watching genocide...

Why? So safe white people in the cozy homes dont have to see such horrible events?

Oh stop it. I live in England atm, a multi-cultural society. Most citizens watch the news. I’m thinking of the viewer but of the utterly broken person whose despair is being filmed when they can probably barely remember their own name let alone give informed consent. Which I suspect you know full well.

The reporter/camera operator get their shots then move on to the next headline whilst the person’s rawest moment is there on camera for ever.

It’s a bit sick.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/10/2023 11:17
  • I’m not thinking of the viewer
Livinghappy · 22/10/2023 11:20

It is horrific but I am shocked that they filmed children in such distress..someone was following them with a phone camera.

I'm not, this conflict is very much using social media not just to share the 'truth' but to fan the flames.

Heartbreaking. And this is just a tiny tiny example of what's happening in Gaza every single day. What's maddening is the complicity of the western "leaders". A genocide is happening before our eyes and those who should be intervening to stop it are turning the other way.

‘truth’ in inverted commas? The child is dead, for God’s sake and you have the absolute nerve to do that. Have some respect.

Yes, because there are lots of things being shared as fact when they are in fact not, it was a statement about not being surprised at people being filmed even in a scenario such as this and the role of social media rather than doubting or commenting on the accuracy of this particular thing. I'm not sure how acknowledging the reality of the overall situation means I don't have any respect for a dead child and their loved ones; you have a nerve to insuate that.

Your use of inverted comments implies that you are placing the death of this child in the ‘truth’ with inverted comments category.

This is one of the double binds Palestinians have been lumbered with: unless you show us the proof we won’t believe you, shows us the proof and we will accuse you of fanning the flames (aka milking it).
That is disrespectful to the child, his family, and the wider Palestinian community.

You are demonstrating that you have expectations about how you see Palestinians grieve. Can’t you at least be honest with yourself about your need for the death to be sanitized so you can dismiss it.

I don't need to explain myself to a stranger on the Internet, but you're filling in gaps and making assumptions not based in what I've actually said so you carry on if it makes you feel better.

You’re right, you don’t have to explain yourself to me. But every time you see a news report of a dead child you’ll remember that there are those who will do air quotes around it, and those people are your tribe.

Your tribe are evidently those who purposefully misconstrue what someone posts and makes all sorts of assumptions to try and prove a point which is a bit grim and pathetic given the subject matter- very 'intelligent' of you.

Well said.

What an unthinkable thing to have to go through. 😔
