hi all, thought id say hello :-) ive booked in to have my implant removed and been told it will be about 3 month waiting list, which is ok as wheels are in motion :-)

my plan was to go back on the pill until early next year then start trying, but im becoming a bit obsessed and want to start trying as soon as implant is out, only problem is my Dp works away on and off until end of year and finishes mid november, hence us trying around next feb/march so he is home for the (hopefully) new arrival coming into the world.

if i started trying when implant is removed in next few months there is a chance he would be away for the birth :-( i dont know what to do.

any advice and support welcome, we already have a ds who will be 5 in november xxx

Hi Julie,

I had mine out in May and have been taking the mini pill in the mean time - I can't give up total control just yet! The doctor suggested the POP for me as the hormones are the same (ish) as the implant and that it doesn't prevent pregnancy in the same way as the combined pill so my body so theoretically quicker to regain fertility when I decide to stop taking it.

I think it's an absolute shambles that the waiting list is that long - I had similar with a 6 week wait and inability to do it at the GP surgery so had to go to a family planning clinic out of hours. I've actually been so frustrated by this issue I've written to the PCT. Why keep encouraging people to go for long term contraception when they don't have the levels of staff trained to deal with removals/replacements? Or why SO much red tape over its removal that limits the people who are 'qualified' to do it - it's a simple procedure and we became so frustrated that DH nearly took to my arm with a scalpel himself! (Oh, I got into a rant...)
