Low Progesterone

I have had two sets of 21 day bloods where my progesterone levels have been low and I am waiting for my GP to call me today to discuss this.

I guess it means that perhaps I am not ovulating. But does anyone know what this means in terms of treatments etc? I am just wondering what to expect from this call.

Any advice/sharing of experiences would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Did the GP call?

The day 21 test should be done in conjunciton with a day 2 test to check and compare your LH level against that of FSH. LH and FSH are two very important hormones as they kickstart the ovulation process. If these levels are awry ovulation can be affected. Low progesterone would indicate non ovulation that month.

You should really be referred to a gynae at a subfertility unit; you need a diagnosis first and foremost.

Thanks for the reply, Attila.

I haven't spoken to my GP yet. I have had to leave a message as the surgery was running behind and I am still waiting and getting more anxious every minute. I had day 5 bloods done and they were all normal. Is that the same as the day 2 test you mention?

The day 2 test is done at the beginning of the cycle and measures LH and FSH.

As for the Day 5 test(its usually done around day 2 but that may not make any real difference here) were you told what hormone levels were going to be looked at?. Ideally both LH and FSH were checked. If either was missed out then you should have another test done earlier to measure both these hormone levels.

Hope you hear from them soon but I would still go for a referral to a gynae for further evaluation.

Spoke to GP and my levels were 23 when they should be 30+. She was not overly concerned though as my LH and FSH levels were normal when they were checked.

She's put it down to stress so I have to try for another two months before going back for a referral and further test.

If your levels were 23 when checked it could well be that your LH and FSH levels are out of sync.

I would ask for a paper copy of the LH and FSH results or have them redone this time on day 2. The GP should have compared the level of LH against that of FSH; if that was not done the test result is meaningless. Also these levels can look okay if only looked at separately.

Stress alone does not cause such problems. You should be referred asap, another two months delay is unacceptable.
