Failing TTC - too soon to get tested?

We've been ttc since Sept 08, one miscarriage in January.

I have one DS, who is 2.6 and it took us about 7 month to conceive him.

I turned 36 last week, and the frustration got to me. I want to go to the doctor and get some tests for possible fertility problems but DH says I'm being silly. It can be hard to get things in proportion when you really want ttc and get a bit obsessive about it.

Please, some objective viewpoints from you lovely Mnetters who I'm sure will have been through similar and/or much worse.

I would go see the doctor - even apart from the fact that I think it's the right thing from the info you gave, more importantly you sound like you need some reassurance and getting some basic tests done may help set you at ease. Good luck with your TTC. I am TTC #3 and have been for 9 months with no luck - that's been more than enough time to drive me mad, have booked an appointment on Friday.

Go go go!

I've been TTC no 2 since just before you - August 08. We went to docs a year ago. Since then we've both had tests, DH has been found to have a low sperm count and low motility.

He's changed his lifestyle in lots of ways and is taking vits and prescribed medication for it. His count improved from 1 million to 11 million (normal is 20-40 million) in 3 months, and may have improved more since then.

We conceived our 1st child v easily so had no reason to believe we had any problems, but I'm so glad we went and got tested. It feels like we've doing everything we can to conceive - and that's all I want really. If it doesn't work at least we know we tried everything

Maud, I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage. You aren't being silly. There's certainly nothing lost by at least going to see your GP. The guidelines say to try for a year if you are under 35, 6 months if you are over 35 - so you would have been well within your rights to go sooner, if you've been trying since Sept 08.

I don't think your miscarriage necessarily "resets the clock", as it were, I woould hope/expect that your GP would still take you seriously. Good luck, let us know how you get on.
