What about sex running in families, have you notice some families tend to have loads of one sex and some the other, definately true in both DP and I's families, girls outnumber boys about 4 to 1 at least?

Amandeep · 18/08/2005 07:58

Chandra you are right about what you are saying. I have read many books and they say the same thing. The hardest part is to identify the ovulation day. I get pains for three days but i don't know when i ovulate. I have tried to take my temp but it's all over the place. They say that the discharge on ovulation is like an egg white but i seem to tell the difference. Please could somebody let me know which ovulation kit to use as there are so many on the market and best way to identify ovulation day.

I have the same situation as Amandeep, but I have 3 boys instead of girls. However, I don't care what sex my next baby is after having a MC last week.

I have read that if you BD a few days before OV you are more likely to have a girl because the "boy" sperm go whizzing off to find the egg but it isn't there yet. And by the time you do OV, the "boy" sperm have died off, leaving the slow but steady "girl" sperm to get to the egg. If you BD on the day of OV, then you are more likely to have a boy. This isn't an exact science though, and I do believe the sex of chldren run in families to a certain extent (DH dad has 3 sons and 3 grandssons - not a girlie in sight!!)

I'm no expert, but hope my opinion helps

Has any of you used the bicarb douche. I'm thinking of trying this as i've been told it's safe. Please let me know how much bicarb to use?

Made me think about when my children were conceived and my son was conceived very early on in my cycle and his dad has six daughters before my son so was convinced i'd have a girl too and my daughter was conceived on round about day 17.

mumtosomeone · 19/08/2005 07:49

doesnt the male determind the sex? I have a cousin who only has one testicle(no laughing!) he was told he would only have children of the same sex. he never had kids so dont know!
My friend says its whether the egg comes from the left or right..but she is a bit mad!

misdee · 19/08/2005 07:50

Amanda, would you be really upset if you have a girl?

btw i dont think anything that changes the enviroment of your ahem vagina acidity/alkaline is safe. you might end up with a bit sore or with an infection.

mumtosomeone · 19/08/2005 07:51

there are races that only want boys so if there was a sure way then surly they would know!
I think a baby is a baby and you are lucky to have whichever comes along!!

happymerryberries · 19/08/2005 08:31

Mumtosomeone, the 'one testicle one sex' thing is a load of old toffee!

You are right that the sperm determines the sex of the child. Eggs are all female and sperm can be either male or female. Get a female egg and a female sperm= female
Female egg and male sperm = male.

However both testicles make both types of sperm.

I know this because I'm a biology tescher and also because I have a dh with only one testicle, and we have one girl and one boy . And the milkman was not involved

mumtosomeone · 19/08/2005 08:35

postman?
didnt know if it was true. this iswhat he was told.. or his mum was told!

happymerryberries · 19/08/2005 08:46

Nope, a load of toffee!

And we have a post woman!

Dh lost his testicle of cancer 11 years ago and was warned that the chemotherapy, that he also needed, might knock his fertility a bit, but that the second one would 'take over' with time. His fertility was not affected (thankfuly) and we had our kids withour any artificial aids (although he did 'deposit' some wrigglers before he was treated)

mumtosomeone · 19/08/2005 08:52

well it was in the olden days!! Not sure they knew much back then!!!!

sweetkitty · 19/08/2005 09:00

I BD'd on CD19 with DD (was away for a bit so am pretty certain that was the day) thought this was a bit late and I had already ovulated but NO! Was trying for 9 months before that using OPKs as well.

This time we BD'd on CD17 don't know the sex of this one and don't really care. Was first time unprotected after DD was born DP says he has super sperm now!

Both times I knew practically after the deed was done DP thinks I'm insane. Ideally we would like 3 children but feel if this one is a girl I will be getting the old "are you hoping for a boy next time?" so in that respect wouldn't mind it being a boy although we would probably be seen as weird having a third if we have one of each (hate that)!

none of mine have been missionary position either

DD should be a boy according to timing, position and the chinese gender selector maybe DP got slow swimmers

robinia · 19/08/2005 10:05

That sounds fun, MT
I understand about the getting girls before ovulation (say before day 12 for average cycle) and getting boys on the day of ovulation or day before (days 13 &14). What I don't understand is the "higher chance" of getting a girl after ovulation (ie. days 15 on) as in sweetkitty's example.
This is purely an academic interest as 5 children is enough for me, regardless of what sex no.5 turns out to be. (I think )

Fennel · 19/08/2005 10:09

ahem, MT, my 3 dds are not the result of once a month missionary style sex! our approach to conception was "carpet bombing" - every day or two for the fertile half of the month. resulting in 3 girls, quickly conceived each time.

our family is full of girls, my 3 girls have 6 girl cousins and one lonely boy cousin.

ninah

I meant the generalised approach - no working out the ovulation "target" but just going for it for the fortnight or so around that time.

Amandeep · 19/08/2005 13:12

I have been told to use the doggy style for a boy. Has anyone tried & did it work???

EnidfromtheVILLAGE · 19/08/2005 13:13

oh amandeep. You really must chill out about this.

there is no way to guarantee a boy!!!!!

Amandeep · 19/08/2005 13:17

I'm chilling mate...No harm in asking people is there?

OP posts:
EnidfromtheVILLAGE · 19/08/2005 13:18

dont you think if you try all these things and have a girl you'll be even more disappionted

Amandeep · 19/08/2005 13:22

I would be hurt, but I love my girls to bits. I have always put them before anything else & it woudl never change because they are part of me.

Don't know if this link will work, it's a (relative ancient) thread on mkp about boys/girls tending to run in families, lots of possible scientific explanations.
