Is it possible to ovulate quite soon after period has finished?

Been TTC no 2 for nearly 2 years now...have been using opks but am not entirely convinced they work...am now pondering as to whether I actually ovulate a lot earlier than I think eg CD10 or 11 - is that possible?

I am no medical expert but I'm pretty sure DS1 was conceived 5 to 7 days after end of my period and the month DD was conceived, I got no smiley face on the ovulation sticks, but tried every day from day three onwards.

Absolutely possible.

Before ds1, I was ovulating on around day 9, despite not finishing my period until around day 6 or 7.

I really recommend that you read Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler, it is really interesting and you may well get some insight as to why you have not yet been successful,

good luck

I think so. Both months I conceived we had unusually had sex right after my period and then a lull for a week or so. So I assume I ovulated in those first few days. Cycle was always 28 days long too.

I def ovaluate about 3/4 days after my period has finished. I know this because thats when I get all my symptoms of ovaluating and in all my pregancies the scans have shown I am a week to nine days more pregnant than what I should be according to my dates

PlasticCenturion · 28/06/2010 21:49

Yup, absolutely possible. I used to ovulate on day 9. Since having dd I ovulate on day 11. OPKs aren't reliable in isolation either. Read Weschler's book as recommended above.

Oh bollocks....not another wasted month

Will keep trying the opks and see if I get a surge...

No EWCM yet though but have had twingy ovary pains today

Oh yes, Ive been charting since last August and my ovualtion day has practically changed every month, ranging from a lot of day 10s, right up to day 17.

Have you tried taking your basal temperature (ie your temperature just as you wake up)? The method is explained in Toni Weschler's book Taking Charge of your Fertility (and her website). If you chart your temperature you will be able to tell if and when you ovulate. The book also explains how to work out what your most fertile days are. Smile

Puss

It is certainly possible to ovulate earlier in a cycle.

If you have been ttc for almost two years then a visit to the GP would certainly be in order. You are beyond the stage of using temp charts and opks as you have been ttc for this length of time.

Both of you should be checked out medically to see where the problem/s lie.
