Ive heard theres a special one called pre-seed which is quite expensive.

Does anyone know if ones like Durex or shops ones affect the little swimmers?

Hi clarebear

Yes I believe the shop ones do as they do not provide the same environment for the swimmers. I used pre-seed and you don't really have to use as much as a whole applicatorful, if you get the multi-use tube then you can just use as much as you need. I got mine from here

Good luck with the TTC

oh dear, we always use durex lubricant (which I assume is spermicidal). Are we making it much harder to conceive? How much of an effect does it have?

clarebear1 · 19/06/2010 18:46

Yeh apparently, ive googled for about an hour about it, something about the acid. Worth googling it. The recommended lubes expensive too. Some say pre seed has helped them to concieve,or maybe just coincidence.

Checked my lube and it's not spermicidal. Do non spermicidal ones have an effect on conception too?

clarebear1 · 20/06/2010 18:06

Not spermicidal? So does that mean does not effect sperm? Not sure...

I made the lube mistake, it acts like glue and stops the sperm swimming on up to where they are meant to go.

Apparently normal lubricants can damage sperm. Im not sure if this has been scientifically proven or if it is the word of "pre seed' producers!

We used pre-seed for at least 6 months with no luck. Once it ran out I conceived first go back using the old durex stuff.

You decide?

InvaderZim · 26/06/2010 09:30

I bought some pre-seed but never got the chance to use it as we conceived using Sylk.

VictoriasLittleKnownSecret · 26/06/2010 09:36

I worked in a fertility unit and we never used KY or other lubricants because of the risk of slowing the sperm

Loads of women conceive with them......... but if you're having difficulty you would avoid
