Can you really get pregnant at ANY time of your cycle or is that complete poop?

everywhere website ive looked at has completely contradicted what the other said.

some sites are saying there is always a chance no matter where you are in your cycle....
some say NO absolutely not, just the short time of ovulation.

day 7 of cycle and started ttc this month

Of cause you can get pregnant at any time it is just some times are more likely than others. it happens quicker if just relax and enjoy ... which is easier said and done when you're ttc

It is definitely a myth, once you ovulate and the egg has died (usually about 24 hours, maybe less, after ovulation) you definitely can't get pregnant that cycle.

Good luck ttc

You can only get pregnant if there's an egg there to be fertilised. Eggs are generally only released once a month, and don't hang around indefinitely.

When your egg is released will vary, so women can get pregnant at all sorts of times in a cycle, depending on when they ovulate.

Sperm also hang around a bit (couple of days), so if you've had sex before an egg is released, it is still possible to get pregnant if there's still some sperm hanging about when the egg is released.

When you first start, the best thing to do is have sex when you're in the mood and see what happens. Save the trying to predict stuff and just have fun to start.

When I say egg release can vary, I mean between women, not for an individual. Don't think that was very clear.

It's a myth spread at school to teenagers to try and help them to keep their pants on I think.

You can only get pregnant when a live sperm meets a live egg, and since sperm only live for a max of about 5 days (usually more like 72 hours) and the egg lives around 12 hours after ovulation, you can only actually get pregnant by having sex in the 5 days leading up to and including ovulation.
The thing where they say you can get pregnant any time in your cycle is because women all ovulate on different days, so unless you know when you normally ovulate, then shagging every day is a good way to make sure you have all the bases covered.

Faddle and Muser said good things. But also, I think the reason a lot of doctors (for instance) might say not to try to track your fertile period, but just have sex lots all month long, is because it's not always easy to get your fertile window right, and only having sex then and not during the rest of the month, just means lots of missed opportunities if you're mistakenly misreading your body. Also, things like stress, etc can always cause your cycle to switch a bit from one month to the next, so...
