Hello everyone,

Has anyone tried the Tesco Low GI Plan and if so how easy is it and is it worth it?

Looking forward to responses

They do your whole plan with shopping list and everything but you have to pay obviously!

I am trying to follow a low GI diet but I am the sort of person who should not be given choices I need it to be simple and not to have to think about it too much!!

Saying that I have been to the docs today and saw a locum and he doesn't think I have PCOS at all!! but is sending me for a scan so I am 1 step further to finding out what I am up against!

Good Luck Danilou. Its a horrible syndrome! 1 year & 1/2 after its confirmed & no help given at all. To the point where we've been sent for IVF but they've refused it die to my BMI but I can't shift the weight because of the PCOS & yet no-one is will to understand or help me! Plus there are plenty of people who are much bigger than me that fall pg naturally & they are not refused any medical assistance for things!!!

It is a nightmare! I know someone who mananged to lose the weight (doing the Cambridge diet, extreme but it works I know because I have done it!) Had IVF which failed and then by the time she went back had put on a little weight making her BMI too high again and she has been discharged and has got to start from the beginning again and lose the weight before they will try.

It does seem so unfair. I was out today looking at people with babies who were very very overweight and it got me thinking.

Maybe we need to set up a PCOS weightloss thread!

hello
I have just received a letter from my consultant telling me he thinks I may have slight PCOS and has prescribed drugs (metformin)to take before we start a cycle of IVF. I have NO idea bout PCOS and wondered if you could help!
Thank you....

Fairygodmother1 · 09/06/2010 18:13

Hi SE22 what would you like to know? My Bible is a book called PCOS for Dummies.

Miffles · 09/06/2010 19:31

I have a scan on Friday to confirm whether I have PCOS...so have been doing some reading up on it.
I'm not incredibly overweight, but am over recommended, so am trying to lose weight too. It is hard, but wanting a baby has certainly given me the best incentive. I'm combining exercise with a low GI diet. Plus taking millions of supplements to try and regulate my cycle and actually get myself to ovulate!
Fairygodmother - I read that the chance of conceiving is so so much higher when you lose the weight. Do stick with it. And if it's not working, i'd go back to the doctors and tell them that you need help. Surely if you have PCOS and are ttc, they'd refer you to a fertility specialist. Someone who actually understands your condition.
Metformin is meant to help weight loss too, so have you tried that before your IVF?

Fairygodmother1 · 10/06/2010 17:10

Hi Miffles - I've been under a fertility specialist for 1 year 1/2. I had 6 months of clomid that made me ovulate but nothing stuck. Recently reffered to IVF clinic but they refuse to treat me as I have a BMI of 32!
My fertility consultant wont give me metformin as he said it won't work. I'm stuck in limbo till I lose weight. This is the second week of really sticking to the diet & major exorcise kick. If the scales don't show any differnce on Sat morning then I'll be heading to GP to see what they can do but I'd rather not have the tablets to lose weight as thats not a long term option!
I'm affraid even specialists don't understand this condition!

Good luck with your scan.

Miffles · 11/06/2010 19:20

Fairygodmother - i'm sorry to hear that you've had such a rough run of it. I really hope that this saturday the scales show something positive. Even if it is only a small loss it will give you more incentive to keep going.
How old are you, may I ask?

Fairygodmother1 · 11/06/2010 20:01

I'm 29, so time is still on my side.

Fairygodmother1 · 12/06/2010 10:06

Yay! I lost 5lb & 6cm off my waist!!!!

Miffles · 12/06/2010 22:17

Danilou22 · 14/06/2010 20:34
